Twitter said it complied with the Final Notice of the Ministry of Electronics and IT


Social media platform Twitter has complied with the final announcement issued by the Ministry of Electronics and IT on June 27, an official source said on Monday.

The Ministry of Electronics and IT has set up limit line of July 4th, failed Twitter may have lost its intermediary status, which means it will be held responsible for all comments posted on its platform.

“Twitter has complied with the announcement,” an official source told PTI on condition of anonymity.

According to another official source, the social media company has been asked to take action on several tweets and Twitter accounts but the microblogging has not previously reported compliance.

Twitter declined to comment on the matter.

In May, the government asked Twitter to take action on Khalistan-related content and eulogy accounts for terrorists in Kashmir. At the end of June, the government request Twitter works on about 60 accounts.

According to sources, Twitter has taken action upon request and reported compliance.

On June 26, the microblogging site submitted a separate list of more than 80 Twitter accounts and tweets it had blocked based on a request from the government in 2021.

The government’s request was to block multiple accounts and some tweets from the international advocacy group Freedom House, journalists, politicians and supporters of the farmers’ protest.

Like report Earlier, Twitter was said to have been ordered by the Indian government in 2021 to block Freedom House tweets in India in 2020 that reported a decline in Internet freedom in the country. The social media company is said to have only executed the order in June. It also blocked some tweets and/or processing by many other users who were said to be critical of the Indian government. Many users have shared screenshots of emails they received from the microblogging platform explaining that the content they shared has been blocked in India. Furthermore, several users’ sub-accounts have shared screenshots showing that their accounts have been “withheld in India as required by law.” However, in some cases, Twitter failed to take any action following the removal request from the Government of India.
