TURTLE 2 SMART TTL Triggers Offer High Speed Synchronization with Backscatter Mini Flash 2

i-TURTLE 2 SMART TTL Trigger for Nikon System

A few years ago, TRT-Electronics introduced a updated TTL trigger line can be programmed (via USB connection to your PC) to trigger different flashing patterns both electrically and optically and in TTL or manual mode. The LED triggers could be used in high-speed sync (HSS) mode with the only HSS-capable strobe at the time, the Retra PRO (currently updated as Retra Pro X).

Now, TRT-Electronics has announced that the latest versions of TTL enable—the i-TURTLE 2 SMART TTL Trigger for Nikon System and s-TURTLE 2 SMART TTL enabled for Sony systems—compatible with new HSS capable Backscatter Mini Flash 2 (MF-2). Fast shutter speeds thanks to HSS can allow you to use more apertures—for creative bokeh—while maintaining a dark background. In it blog post (see below), TRT-Electronics also said it plans to upgrade its software to allow the original SMART triggers to also use the MF-2 in HSS mode.

Available from retailers such as Backscatter, i-TURTLE 2 SMART (Nikon) and s-TURTLE 2 SMART (Sony) priced at $325.

High-speed sync with Backscatter MF-2!

A new strobe light has this feature and you can now control it with your TURTLE trigger.

‘What about High Speed Sync?…’

This is a common question from underwater photographers. Different underwater wardrobe users and of course different triggers. It is important to know which settings are capable of performing this feature.

So far, only one strobe light works in High Speed Sync (HSS) in Manual mode. It’s Retra Pro, and we’ve been offering triggers for a while that feature HSS: TURTLE for Nikon, Sony, Olympus, and Canon all with that capability.

We know the Backscatter Mini Flash 1 (MF-1) well, which is our favorite strobe for underwater macro photography with optical signaling. It’s small, easy to use, and of course, our activator works with it in Manual mode.

The only feature we missed in the MF-1 is High-Speed Sync.

But recently, the manufacturer Backscatter announced a new MF-2 version of this popular macro flash that has this feature.

We felt we needed to get one ASAP. We recently tested the MF-2 with the new s-TURTLE 2 SMART and i-TURTLE 2 SMART versions and Backscatter MF will be added to the software soon and you can control it with our TURTLE trigger. me.

Sure, we’ll be upgrading all Smart software, so all customers with the original SMART trigger can use this strobe light.

We wanted to share some of the photos we took during testing. We did the test with the Sony A7IV camera and the s-TURTLE 2 SMART trigger, in Manual mode (WL mode ON in the camera menu).

Settings: ISO 400, F2.8, 1/8000. These are the live view screens and below you can see the photos we took with this setup and settings, using the Backscatter MF-2 with snoot!

You can soon find new TURTLE products in our webshop or contact your dealer!
