Try these bathing rituals to heal and nourish from the outside in


You’ve had a long day. Your alarm goes off too early, you run out of coffee, and the pile of work on your desk seems to have piled up in one night. But, because you are you, you manage to get everything done and still cook a delicious dish and healthy dinner. It’s eight o’clock now, and even though your to-do list is empty, your mind just won’t seem to turn off. Enter the bathing ritual. If I had it my way, I would bathtub Daily. Of course, my schedule doesn’t always allow, but when I have an hour to spare, turn the lights off and on with the faucet. In addition, some scented candles and bath salts, obviously.

In my experience, there’s not much that a hot shower can’t fix. Worry ravaging your mind? Take a shower and take a deep breath. Feeling a cold Upcoming? Go one detox bath. Have a great day? As I mentioned above, if I could shower every day, I would. Actually, it happens about 3-4 times a week, but always on Sunday. Depending on the time of day, I can sprinkle some lavender bath salts to promote sleep or add in some bath oils for extra moisture throughout the day. While the water was running, I went straight to the rest of the bathroom because I couldn’t relax looking at the mess. I prepare a large glass of water, sometimes some hot tea, my body scrub, and my chosen form of entertainment just before entering. Finally, I turned off all the lights, lit a few candles, and soaked in my favorite part. during the day.

If I’m lucky, I’ll get a good soak once a week. What do I have to do to get it all frothy in the tub? First and foremost, a clean tub! I wouldn’t dare step foot in the tub unless I knew it had been cleaned (and rinsed) with some kind of super gentle, Non-toxic cleaning products, Of course! I am part of Basic knowledge of branches. I spend Sunday evenings (and honestly any time I’m freezing cold) showering. Sundays are usually my long days, so the best time for a muscle soak. Before entering the bath, I dry brush my whole body to the lymphatic system moving. Lately, I’ve been using a combination of Parachute x Osea Sleep Time Bath Salts and Soaked milk and honey in the actual bathtub. It turns off the light with a good candle for me. Sometimes I pick a relaxing playlist off Spotify, but most of the time I catch up Nikki Glaser Podcast or Sex with Emily (Honestly they both have great and real relationship advice.) While soaking, I usually apply Virtue Keratin Hair Mask and SK-II Mask. Never fail! After showering, I turn on my melatonin and magnesium and basically roll right into bed.., before 9pm of course.

I am obsessed with tubs and they are my Sunday getaway from my whole family. Typically right after the kids go to bed. Before I shower, I dry brush my teeth (this is my job brush) and rinses off quickly in the shower. My husband was really nice to bring me a glass of water and decaf tea to enjoy. I’m obsessed with soaking in Essential body wash in eucalyptus. The scent is very relaxing and it doesn’t dry out my skin. If I really needed a royal treatment, I would use some sort of hydrating mask, usually Tata Harper Hydrating Flower Mask and lip treatment. This one’s The beauty of three ships is lovely and has saved my lips from the harsh dry winter air. Recently, I didn’t have the energy to read or listen to music so I lit candles. I am allergic to synthetic fragrances so I like to use natural scented candles like this one from Heretic. Then I roll a towel behind my neck, close my eyes, and try to get my head back.

A few nights a week, after I finished cleaning up dinner and the kids chilled out with a show, I took a hot shower, turned off the lights in the bathroom, and lit a few candles. There’s something about turning off overheads that immediately relaxes me. I like to put on a mask and lie there for a while with a book or turn on a podcast and close my eyes — man!

I’m a Friday night shower person. I like to transition from a fast-paced work week to setting the intention to slow down on the weekend with a restorative shower. It may sound odd, but living in a cold and humid climate, I always start my routine with a walk or run outside. When I returned, my body and mind were prepared for the warm-up. I switch between listening to podcasts (this is my current favorite) or is progressing on my book. The ritual will last from half an hour to 45 minutes — basically, I know it’s time to go outside when my skin reaches the point of a rash.

Since being quarantined last year, I’ve ramped up my bathing ritual to at least 2-3 times a week. There’s something very therapeutic and meditative about bathing – it forces me to pause and be present because there’s nowhere else I can go and there’s nothing I can do but be in that moment. I love taking a hot bath in my tub, and I use the time to mask along with a little spa moment, which often includes a salt body scrub. I always have at least two washcloths, multiple vials or tubes of masks, and a dry hand towel by my side to wash off each mask before reapplying. Oh, and I always light the candles and turn off the lights before I walk in — it really sets the mood to be calm and relaxing.
