Trubisky: ‘I’m getting ready to be a starter’ for the Steelers
First year Steelsmith QB Mitch Trubisky feels comfortable in his new behavior and is confident in his ability to become Pittsburgh’s starting quarterback for the upcoming 2022-23 season NFL Season.
Trubisky, 27 years old, reported had the majority of representation in the QB position at Steelers’ OTAs and received what is considered “first-team rep”, compared to the recent draft pick Kenny Pickett or backup Mason Rudolph.
“I’m getting ready to be a beginner,” says Trubisky. “I feel that no matter what position you are in, that’s what you should be prepared for. So we all push each other, we all compete every day. Like you said. , I won’t read too much into it , but I’m getting a lot of good rep I feel really comfortable making mistakes.
“So I like where we are right now, and I feel very confident.”
With the retirement of longtime QB Ben Roethlisberger, the Steelers are in the midst of an open midfield rivalry.
They chose Pitt product Pickett with a 20th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft after acquiring a Trubisky free agent, 2nd pick in 2017 and signing him to a two-year contract.
Trubisky has had a turbulent career in Chicago, where he set a 29-21 record as the starting QB in four seasons with the Bears. He was already a professional bowler in 2018 when Chicago performed post-season. Trubisky spent last season as a supporter for Josh Allen In Buffalowhere he witnessed the action in just six games and threw 43 meters and one interception.
If Trubisky can rediscover his game with the Steelers this season, Pittsburgh can solve its biggest long-term problem with a low-risk signing barely registering a blip on the season’s radar.
