Travis Scott: Rapper headlines first festival since Astroworld tragedy – with Brazil event a day after Houston crush celebrations leave 10 dead | US News
Travis Scott is tipped to spotlight his first festival since the Astroworld incident that left 10 people dead – with the music event in Brazil coming a day after the one-year anniversary of the Houston tragedy.
The 30-year-old American rapper has been announced as one of the headline artists for Primavera Sound’s upcoming festival in Sao Paulo, which will take place on November 6, according to Rolling Stone.
More than 300 people were injured at the sold-out Astroworld Festival with 50,000 attendees in 2021, when fans flooded the stage during Scott’s performance.
Nine-year-old Ezra Blount was among those killed on November 5 of last year after being seriously injured.
More than 300 lawsuits have been filed against companies and individuals, including Scott.
Other artists playing at the festival in Brazil included rock band Arctic Monkeys, Charli XCX and Bjork.
In recent months, Scott has begun to re-emerge in the public eye including appearing at a party before the Oscars and announcement of his second child with the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star, Kylie Jenner.
Scott, whose real name is Jacques Webster, is expected to make his first public appearance since the tragedy at a Miami nightclub next Saturday, Rolling Stone reported.
It adds that it is currently unclear whether he will appear or perform.
In his Astroworld movie last year, Scott can be heard asking security to help someone who collapsed in the crowd and was criticized for his performance when emergency crews were on the scene.
In a post-disaster interview, Scott claimed he didn’t know the fan was injured and said he had been on an “emotional roller coaster”.

Since the incident, Houston Fire Chief Samuel Pena said: the rapper should have stopped his performance as soon as he realizes something is wrong.
Some of the families of the 10 people who died from their injuries in the overwhelming crowd at Astroworld turned down Scott’s offer to pay for their loved ones’ funeral expenses.
Last year’s revelry followed an incident two weeks ago at the same venue, when fans burst through the gates at a Playboi Carti performance, forcing it to be cancelled.
