Learn how to make a life as an entrepreneur

Tell us about your career and startup.

I love being an entrepreneur, although it’s not necessarily how I envisioned it before becoming an entrepreneur. I think being an entrepreneur means having more flexibility during the week — maybe more time to exercise in the afternoon. But the reality is that I find myself busier than ever. There is no real way to unplug it. I cannot afford to step out of vacations or maternity leave as an employee. But on the other hand, I have to design my daily life. That is very powerful for me.

About navigation changes

What was your biggest lesson from the past year?

I realized that I’m actually happiest when I’m creative. In the past, I used to think that work is something I enjoy right now, but maybe one day I won’t want to work anymore if given the opportunity.

But over the past year, I’ve realized how important my job is to my overall happiness. Even during my pregnancy and early days of motherhood, I found that my work is truly a gift to my own mental health. Being able to create while raising a family has been one of the most empowering experiences of my life, and I feel incredibly grateful to have been able to do it my way.

What does a typical day look like to you?

I try to split my days between social, content, and computer days. I usually have about two social office/meeting days a week where it’s all about collaboration, two days of undisturbed computer for deep work, and one day for creative work.

Whether it’s for content creation or creative thinking, I love when I can create a day where I don’t have a packed schedule and can let my flow guide me.

What’s the first thing you do when you wake up?

These days, my morning routine is all about my kids. The first thing I did was put our daughter in our bed and tried to convince her to sleep a little with us. If we don’t have any luck with that, there’s not much more to do than start the day.

I wake up at 7 a.m. unless my daughter wakes me up earlier. I love sleeping and make that a priority, especially now that I’m pregnant. I always make sure to get 8 hours of sleep. When I was pregnant, I set a goal of 9 hours.

What do you eat in the morning?

I eat my husband’s home-cooked oatmeal every morning, topped with blueberries, granola, and oat milk. The secret to his recipe is to boil the oats in oat milk instead of water, then add a mashed banana along with cardamom and cinnamon for maximum flavor without any added sweetness.

My husband and I then sat down to have breakfast with our children. We usually start our working day from 8:30am to 9am

What rituals help you succeed?

After breakfast with the family, I go through my skincare routine of washing my face and applying a serum and moisturizer. I love my skin being hydrated and glowing! Then I listen to the affirmations on my HypnoBirthing and get dressed and ready to start the day.

Describe your morning routine from start to finish.

I wash my face with Tracie Martyn’s Amla Purifying Cleanser, then moisturize with Tata Harper’s Resurfacing Serum before combining with Vintners Daughter’s Active Botanical Serum. I use Quip To brush my teeth, Ceremonia Guava Rescue Spray to revitalize my hair in the morning, and then finish with our Guava Moisturizing Conditioner to care for my postpartum hair and moisturize dry ends.
