Customer deliveries Toyota Yaris Cross has resumed operations after the company confirmed that it is fully compliant with certification requirements.
The company has temporarily suspended deliveries to customers earlier this week in Australia, after Toyota in Japan suspended transport of the vehicle pending an investigation into safety testing procedures.
“Earlier this week, we determined that pausing deliveries was the responsible and appropriate course of action while the vehicle’s condition was investigated,” a Toyota Australia spokesperson said.
“We take this matter very seriously and will continue to be transparent with our customers.
“We are pleased to announce that those investigations have confirmed that the correct procedures were applied in the tests carried out on the Yaris Cross to Australian specifications.
“As previously stated, the Yaris Cross has no safety or performance issues.
“We apologize to our customers for any inconvenience and thank them for their patience and understanding.”
Automotive news reports that Toyota has performed safety tests that it claims are more stringent than those required by the Japanese Ministry of Transport for certification, but it has not obtained approval to do so .
Other Toyota models affected include the current Toyota Corolla Fielder wagon and Corolla Axio sedan (which are gray imported models popular in the Australian taxi and ride-sharing industry), as well as the Toyota Crown, The Isis, Sienta and previous generation are now discontinued. Lexus RX.
Toyota has issued a statement apologizing for the issue, which an investigation found resulted in insufficient data in pedestrian and occupant protection tests of the Yaris Cross and Corolla Fielder/Axio.
It then halted shipments out of Japan for these vehicles.
