Toyota stops production again | CarExpert

Toyota Motor Corp. has announced another series of production shutdowns, cutting another month’s planned output by tens of thousands of vehicles compared with the old targets.

As with the most recent factory suspension announcement implemented earlier in May, TMC has once again pinned the suspension of operations to the Shanghai shutdown, which has caused chaos for the global components chain.

Toyota doesn’t make cars for export in China, but it does make freighter parts made there.

Toyota says its June planned output is 850,000 vehicles (250,000 units in Japan and 600,000 units “overseas”), down from a monthly average of about 900,000 units. Insiders signaled earlier this year.

That’s not quite as bad as the May results, with output for the current month (at the time of writing) cut first to 750,000, and then to the target 700,000 – as reported on May 11.

“Due to a supply shortage of parts caused by the closure in Shanghai, we have decided to suspend operations in May and June,” the company added.

As you can read thisToyota will freeze production at 13 different Japanese factories in June, affecting a multitude of models, above and beyond existing announcements.

Affected vehicles include many that have been on long waiting lists in Australia, including RAV4and both LandCruiser Series 70 and 300. Ditto a handful of Lexus cars, not least new LX and NX range – both have Australian waitlists for the last 12 months.

To put these latest cuts into context, Toyota now says it expects group-wide production of 9.7 million vehicles for this Japanese financial year (ending March 31), down from 9.7 million vehicles. with an initial projection of 11 million vehicles as they think the global supply chain will pick up again this year.

The loss of approximately 1.3 million vehicles from the global distribution will send shock waves through all of Toyota’s key regions, particularly in Australia, where the company holds a 20% market share in the north. .

“We at Toyota would like to once again apologize for the repeated adjustments to our production plans due to widespread COVID-19 part shortages and significant inconvenience to customers. our customers, suppliers and stakeholders,” said Toyota Global HQ.

“…Semiconductor shortages, the spread of COVID-19 and other factors are making it difficult to look ahead, but we will continue to do our best to deliver as many vehicles to our customers as possible. our customers as soon as possible.”

To its credit, Toyota Australia has fairly well informed industry stakeholders about its inventory situation compared to other brands and we are expecting another localization update in the coming weeks. near future. We will always keep you informed as we are.
