The lighter, torquier, two-seat GR Corolla will arrive in Australia in 2023.
Toyota Australia plans to open orders for both the regular four- and two-seat GR Corolla models in the fourth quarter of 2022, with details to be revealed closer to that.
For the two-seat model, Toyota has also adjusted 1.6 liter turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine. In two seats, it creates 224kW at 6500 rpm and 400Nm between 3250 and 4600 rpm.
While power is unchanged, the less utilitarian variant has 30Nm more torque.
As with the regular GR Corolla, the Morizo’s engine is connected to all four wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. The gear ratio has been tweaked, with the first, second and third gears closer together.
In addition – or minus – to this, the company has made the car 30kg lighter, mainly by removing the rear seats and replacing them with additional body braces.
To improve rigidity, Toyota has applied 3.3m of structural adhesive to various points of the vehicle.
Other changes under the skin include a revised suspension setup. The front McPherson strut is now equipped with an inverted monoshock, while the single-tube shock absorber comes with a double rear fork.
The two-seat Corolla GR on rubber is 10mm wider, with 245/40 Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires replacing the car’s standard Yokohama Advan Apex V601 tyres.
Inside the cabin, this two-seater features molded black trim, faux suede details for the steering wheel and center console, and exclusive semi-bucket seats.
Matte metallic gray paint is an option only available to those starting out with the two-seat GR Corolla.
