Toyota EV pushback target, states and sunset of gas cars by 2035, GM’s silicon-anode technology, pluggable Pacifica hybrid: Car News Today


The recalled Chrysler Pacifica Hybrids can be plugged in again, with a remedy. GM bets on silicon-anode technology for range and cost. Not all CARB states are covered by the 2035 gas-powered vehicle ban. While Toyota has signaled it will stop fighting California’s emissions regulator — and its rules lead to a moratorium on sales of new gasoline vehicles by 2035 — the automaker’s CEO said last week that even the US target is 50% EV by 2030 will be “very difficult.” In short, it sticks to a plan that emphasizes hybrids.

And although most states that have agreed to California’s Clean Car rules have signed on to new rules that gradually increase to 2035 bans on new gasoline vehicles, Not all states of California agree quite yet. Minnesota and Virginia are a few states that are likely to look for a different route that actually mandates some trams but doesn’t ban the rest.

GM is betting on silicon anode technology, which in a development partnership with startup OneD Battery Sciences could make cells with higher energy densities can extend EV driving range and/or lower cost.

Owner of Chrysler Pacifica 2017-2018 plug-in hybrid minivan recalled approved to start charging their vehicles and park them inside the garage again — following a recall that involved dealers installing updated battery pack software. While the company is still uncertain about the root cause, the software should provide fallback safety.
