Blind dates are hard enough. The awkwardness of the whole thing has left many of us single. So we really feel for Lizzy Johnson of Surrey, England, who recently jumped into the river to save her Tinder date dog from drowning.
The dog is all in
The dog, a Boxer in Lizzy’s description, never seems to have been around water. As the Tinder-connected couple strolled along the River Mole in Walton-on-Thames, the fearless boy jumped in.
Lizzy said the owner didn’t realize the dog was heading towards the water until it was too late.
Lizzy told Kennedy News and Media: “When the dog jumped in, he just freaked out and said, ‘Oh my God, my dog has never been in the water.

Deep dive
Eventually, Lizzy gets to her struggling friend, and after some controversy (and eventually some practical help from her date), the trio emerge from the water. safe. But the disastrous date wasn’t over yet. The dipping trio had a 10-minute walk back to the car, where they caught a few odd looks from other park visitors.
On the return trip, the guy gave some vague excuses for his inaction.
“He was like, ‘I’m going in, you don’t have to do that. I was going to empty my pocket and then lie down on the bank and drag him out,” Lizzy told reporters. “I guess he was trying to be logical while I said, ‘There’s a dog in the river that drowned – I need to get the dog out’.”
There is no monday
As you can imagine, sparks don’t fly exactly.
“It was probably the worst date ever, probably because I didn’t feel him either. It wasn’t a great date,” Lizzy said. “It’s my first social distancing date and I’ll wait until things move on so I can go out for a nice glass of wine. Dog walks are no longer images.”
Sadly, no video of the incident exists. And we can’t figure out the doggo’s name. But Lizzy managed to snap a few photos of the messy and muddy results before shooting a video to share details of her weirdest date ever.
