TikTok owner ByteDance discovers self-designed chips
While ByteDance is best known for its social media app TikTok, the Beijing-based company is now consolidating its capabilities in the semiconductor design space. ByteDance will not manufacture chips to sell to others, but it will design the semiconductors it requires for specific applications internally.

TikTok’s owner ByteDance is considering designing its own chip, joining a host of Chinese internet giants focused on semiconductors as Beijing tries to become more autonomous in the key technology.
ByteDance, the parent company behind TikTok and recent gaming successes, is exploring designing chips for its own use in specialized areas because it can’t find a supplier that can meet the requirements. its own, a spokesperson told CNBC.
The chips will be customized to address workloads across multiple business areas of ByteDance including video platforms, information and entertainment applications, the spokesperson added.
ByteDance will not manufacture chips to sell to other companies. The social media giant has many vacancies on its website for semiconductor design-related roles.
