Hello Xbox fans, it’s me again and today is the day! With the festive season in full swing, it’s great to be able to give the Xbox community and the gaming world one last festive gift from Thunderful. The Gunk launches today on Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, PC and you can play now with Xbox Game Pass, including streaming to all Xbox Cloud Gaming compatible devices. The Gunk is a passionate project for the Thunderful family, so we can’t wait to see how players resonate with our story. One of our main goals is to use the skill and charm we are known for SteamWorld series into a new 3D field.
Working closely with Microsoft to launch this product as an exclusive title, The Gunk make full use of the powerful ecosystem available to Xbox players. In my previous Xbox Wire posts, I discussed features like Smart Delivery and Optimization for Series X | S, but today I want to share another way Xbox players can participate The Gunk.
Xbox Cloud Gaming is one of the most exciting new gaming technologies available today. Can use this power to bring The Gunk With more players than ever before is unbelievable for us. Whether it’s a way for you to keep playing while away from your Xbox or PC, or if it’s your primary entry point into the world of gaming, we love how Xbox Cloud Gaming pushes those boundaries. without affecting the quality of the actual gaming experience. With that in mind, we designed a custom overlay for The Gunk while playing games via touch screen. We’ve mapped buttons, triggers, movements/camera sticks to streamline the experience and get the most out of it. The Gunk if you are playing without a traditional controller.
The Gunk is a sci-fi exploration game set on a mysterious alien planet. You’ll be faced with a foreign substance that you can vacuum with Pumpkin, your trusty all-purpose prosthetic arm. This ominous and vibrating substance’s behavior is unlike anything I’ve seen in a game before. Watching the planet’s beautiful alien ecosystem come to life before your eyes as you remove the trash is a core pillar of the game.
In The Gunk, one of my favorite things is the player’s interaction with the world and its positive impact on your surroundings. I feel in a way it embodies the holiday cheer we all want to spread this season. While many games have you hack, slash, and bombard the play area, The Gunk is all about healing your environment so that it supports you and propels you further in your mission.
And it’s a mission! In addition to creating an incredible world for you to explore, the development team’s top priority is to deliver a more mature, character-driven story in The Gunk and I really think they delivered. Our characters are nothing without their incarnations, and fortunately, we found Fiona Nova, who has done an excellent job in bringing Rani to life. The prank between Rani and space miner Becks gives a real sense of the relationship they have as business partners, but also friends, in which they come together to try to figure out what’s going on. What is this really? I love how as their story progresses, a dilemma emerges and they begin to question what to do with this grotesque discovery. Their journey also leads them to discover what happened to an ancient civilization that was left in ruins due to the influence of enemies on this once beautiful planet.
