Here in the US we never get this exact car. We have the IS300 manual and We have SportCrossesbut the two never met. Conveniently, owners have begun to right Lexus’ wrongs by swapping hand-built parts into long-roof bodies for genuine Jalop engines, as this primitive example.
I am not exaggerating when I say that sparkling And pristine. This Lexus has 85,000 miles on the odometer, but you’d never guess it from the condition of the car. The paint looks like new, the seats look like they came out of the factory. Only the dashboard is scuffed and supposedly “sticky” to suggest the car ever even left the showroom floor—and, of course, the manual shifter protruding from the dashboard.
The seller claims the conversion was done during their ownership, but by a local Toyota tuning shop. The conversion appears to use all OEM parts, with the exception of the ACT clutch and flywheel—a set that, from my own experience with fast manuals, is a blast to drive. The IS300 also has a Fortune Auto coilover kit with Swift springs, Kosei K1 wheels, a Tanabe exhaust, and a host of cosmetic parts borrowed from the car’s JDM twin, the Altezza.
