To earn the hotel’s elite statusyou must stay a certain number of nights in a calendar year.
If you know you won’t naturally meet the required nights, you can supplement your elite status by booking cheap nights – whether close to home or somewhere you can easily go travel – to qualify for status. That is, you can search for cheap nights and book stays to earn credits for the preferred night.
But this strategy is usually only a good idea if you only need a few more nights to qualify.

I won Hyatt Globalist status in 2021 in some extremely generous activism Hyatt advertising is driven by pandemic caused by corona virus. Status usually requires 60 nights per calendar year, but I got there by staying just 28 nights.
And I love The state of globalization – but I would never stay at a Hyatt 60 nights in a calendar year. So if I wanted to earn back, I would have to supplement my stay with a few cheap nights. This is how I plan to do it by leveraging Hyatt’s partnership with MGM.
You can earn Hyatt Elite Night credits at MGM Resorts
MGM and Hyatt are partners. When you stay at MGM hotels and attach your Hyatt number to your booking, you’ll earn credits for preferred nights with Hyatt.
Here’s why it’s great: The MGM resorts in Las Vegas offer some of the cheapest room rates in the US. So if you need a few nights to reach (or qualify) Hyatt Elite Statusyou can very save earn elite nights at MGM hotels in Las Vegas.

At Excalibur and Luxor, you can often find nightly rates of $30 or less. The problem is that these properties have to pay a resort fee.
My favorite perk of Hyatt Adventurer status: Complimentary stay at MGM Vegas hotels
Here’s a crappy $24 night out at Excalibur. However, the $40 resort fee brings the final cost up to about $64 – still cheap, but probably not worth it unless you just need a few more nights to qualify for the status. On top of that, you need to factor in the cost of traveling to/from Las Vegas if you’re not a local.
However, if you have Hyatt Explorer or Globalist status, you can avoid resort fees by match your Hyatt status with MGM Gold status. Since I currently hold a Globalist status, I can book this room – and earn credit for a Hyatt Elite night – for $24 all in all.

The state of globalization and Important Rewards associated with earning it, has given me thousands of dollars in value over the past year. However, I currently have 40 more nights to qualify for it, and I have 10 more nights to qualify for Explorer status. If at least I don’t hit Adventurer status this year, I won’t be able to stay at MGM’s resorts for free anymore – and I won’t be able to book expensive tickets to Globalist in the future. future.
I’ve given up hope of winning a Globalist this year, but I plan on just earning Discoverer status so I can continue to lower my resort fees at MGM hotels. Then I still have the option to supplement my Hyatt stays with cheap MGM nights to earn Globalist at a discounted rate in 2023.
Is Globalist status worth booking hotels you don’t want to stay in?
It may sound ridiculous to throw away hundreds of dollars to stay at a hotel you’re not interested in for the sole purpose of earning the hotel’s elite status. So, let me outline the benefits I have received from Globalist elite status over the past year:
- Suite upgrade certificate used for one night at Thompson Nashville: $600 plus.
- Suite upgrade certificate to be used for three nights at Alila Ventana Big Sur: $900 and up.
- Suite upgrade certificate to be used for three nights at Andaz Maui: $1,200 or more.
- Suite room upgrade certificate to be used for four nights at Park Hyatt Beaver Creek: $2,000 plus.
- Free night award (up to Grade 7 hotels) to be used at Hana-Maui . Resort: $700 and up.
- Free night award (up to Grade 4 hotels) at Lahaina Shores Beach Resort: $300 plus.
- $100 Hyatt gift card.
- Free breakfast at Hyatt hotels: $350 or more.
- Free parking at Hyatt hotels during your stay has a prize: $400 plus.
That’s more than $6,500 worth of spending about $1,000 on hotel stays to earn elite night credits. So, if you don’t mind traveling to Las Vegas, this could be a good opportunity to keep your Globalist status and make a profit.
Key point
If I do not achieve Hyatt Explorer status before my Globalization status expires, there will be no way for me to earn Hyatt elite status.
Since Hyatt Explorist and Globalist status align with MGM Gold status, I can currently get Hyatt elite night credits for as little as $24 each. It’s worth it to book a few nights at these properties just to earn the credits for the deal, and I’ll get a trip to Vegas after the deal.
Of course, you should always physically check the hotels you book. Hotel reservations, online check-in, and no-shows are against the rules and may result in your loyalty account being closed. So proceed with caution and only books that you can actually use.
