The incident happened around 8 p.m. local time in Lakewood, Los Angeles Deputy Sheriff Miguel Meza told CNN. Lakewood is a city in Los Angeles County.
Thieves did it with hammers, sledgehammers, crowbars and other tools. After picking up their items, they ran out of the store and into a car parked outside, Meza said.
The theft occurred when the same tools were used in several robbery at premium stores in several major US cities this month.
At least 18 people broke into a Nordstrom department store in Los Angeles on Monday night and stole thousands of dollars in merchandise, the city’s sheriff said. Similar crimes have been reported in San Francisco Bay Area, Chicago, and other cities.
The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department has no details about the getaway vehicle or the amount of items stolen Friday night at the Home Depot, but is investigating.
