New data: Biden’s first year drilling permits fall by 34% by Trump
Thousands of permits approved despite the President’s authority to end drilling in 2035
WASHINGTON— New federal data shows that the Biden administration approved 3,557 oil and gas drilling permits on public land in its first year, far exceeding the total of 2,658 in the first year of the Trump administration.

First, the president has no authority to end drilling in 2035 or any other date…Unless Congress changes the law governing drilling in Union lands and waters.
Second, while the central statement is effective lie, Politifact rates Brandon’s 9,000 licenses as mostly true. How can a lie mostly be the truth? It is a Disraeli-ism.
Jen “Circle-back” Psaki: “Well, there are 9,000 approved oil leases that oil companies are not currently exploiting.”
To explain the lies, I’ll start with the lease, usually combined with license. To get a drilling permit, you must have a lease. In order to have a lease, the Federal government must follow the law and the organization that sells the rental and respect those leases.
The fiscal year of the United States government runs from October 1 to September 30 of the following year. Brandon’s first year of lease and license data will be Fiscal Year 2021 (FY2021). A third of fiscal 2021 occurs before Brandon takes office. The BLM is the agency responsible for the administration of Federal onshore oil and gas permits and permits.
Note that no federal leases on land have been held since Brandon took office on January 20, 2021. Many, if not most, of the leases in Alaska have been canceled Brandon canceled shortly after he took office.
Barrasso: BLM ignores deadline, refuses to keep domestic oil and gas rental sales

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-WY), a senior member of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources (ENR), criticized the Bureau of Land Management (ENR). BLM) for skipping the deadline to announce onshore oil and gas for sale in the first quarter of this year.
“The Biden administration continues to challenge the courts and the law,” Barrasso said. “The BLM has passed the critical deadline needed to hold the first federal onshore oil and gas lease sale this year. As a result, Wyoming and other Western states will now miss out on oil and gas rental sales for the fifth consecutive quarter. Even in the face of the global energy crisis, historic inflation, and skyrocketing gasoline prices, the Biden administration continues to crush American energy production.”
Background information:
BLM is request under the Mineral Leasing Act to organize quarterly onshore oil and gas rental sales. The regulation also requires BLM to post a public sale notice at least 45 days before the sale is held. This week, BLM missed the deadline to announce the sale announcement in order to organize the rental sale in the first quarter of this year.
Without new rental sales, the blue curve will soon start to drop like a rock, pulling the orange curve along.
In fiscal year 2021, 66% of all active leases on Federal land are oil and/or gas production, the highest percentage since at least 2001.
The number of new leases awarded in 2021, plummeted to the lowest level since 2016.
In 2021, only 248,132 acres were awarded, down 89% from the 2,245,906 acres in 2019.

Come on! Before you start worrying about suspending all new permits for drilling, good Well tracked APD’s.
Once the industry realized you wouldn’t stop allowing existing leases, the wave of APD submissions subsided.
The APD Approved and Available For Drilling (AAPD) stockpile is dwindling as the inventory has been depleted and/or the excess permit has expired. However, the number of pending APDs is steadily increasing.
Oddly enough, it looks like BLM only started tracking AAPD in July 2021.
Our government has a funny way with words. Once we submit exploration & development plans and APDs to BLM or BOEM/BSEE, they will not officially receive them until a decision has been received. They are required by law to approve permits in a timely manner. But the clock doesn’t start until they officially receive an application. While the number of approved but unfilled APDs is decreasing, the number of APDs that have been submitted but not received (pending) is skyrocketing. From day one, the Dod Order General Manager Imbecile did everything in his power and beyond to sabotage the US oil and gas industry.
