The “satisfied with progress” paradox on Bloodlines 2 – but its developer remains secret
Paradox Interactive says they are satisfied with the progress on Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, but they still refuse to say who is making it. The topic reappeared in the Swedish publisher’s Q3 interim report, in response to the question, “Any news about Bloodlines 2 or its developers?”
You can see the feedback in the recording. Paradoxical CFO Alexander Bricca responded by saying, first, “No, not much.”
“The new developer is doing pretty well and we are happy with the progress of the project now,” he continued. “But it’s still quite a while before we can start talking about a release date, so we wanted to give the studio a situation where they can focus completely on developing the game and not have to talk about it. to fans contacting them. So we don’t reveal the name of the studio and we’re happy to keep it that way for a while.”
Bloodlines 2 was originally developed by Seattle-based developer Hardsuit Labs. After a few years and some rudimentary-looking demos, the game’s story lead (and Bloodlines original writer) fired in August 2020. Development continued until the developers moved to a new, unnamed studio in February 2021.
I can’t think of another case like this where a game has been announced but the developer is kept secret. The clearest guess for who might have taken over the project would be the predefined Schemas. The developers of Shadowrun Trilogy (and more recently Battletech) are now fully owned by Paradox Interactive and have experience making RPGs. However, I don’t have the information to suggest who it is. Maybe I’m doing it.
