This has been a very benign wildfire season so far this year, with far fewer than normal wildfires in the western US, with significantly less burned area than usual ( see picture below).

But we cannot become complacent! Historically, the most threatened wildfire season in the Northwest is late August, early September when the air starts to cool.
But why? What is threatening the cool periods of late summer/early fall? All revealed in the podcast.
