Career in the middle of life Swerves is not much larger than Matias Corea. The Barcelona native co-founded Behance, the world’s largest online creative network. But then he left the company to travel from New York to Patagonia in a BMW R80G/S Paris-Dakar.

A book about the next journey—South two wheels—And Matias now uses her multifaceted skills to customize classic BMW motorcycles under the banner of Brooklyn-based Myth Motor.

Long-distance riding is in Matias’ blood, and Myth Motor gives other riders the tools to create their own memories. “The core idea was to create adventures in these beautiful planes that we love so much,” says Matias.

“Some people dream of a six-month transcontinental journey, and some want smaller two-week journeys over time. Others enjoy the thrill of a weekend on the dirt roads of their state. ”

“Initially, I focused on manufacturing that would be perfect for the long-distance adventure traveler. But I saw an opportunity to expand the offer to three different setup types – Travel and Enduro, as well as Adventure. ”

This particular bike was built for Eric Della Vedova, a BMW enthusiast. He owned a stock in 1985 R80 G/S, but wanted more power, better handling, and a better driving position.

“Eric is 6’2″ and the stock airheads are too small,” says Matias. “So he asked me to build his next touring machine.” The sponsor bike is a 1984 R80 ST, a dual sport OG.

Matias installed a taller KTM front end with 11.8 inches (300mm) of travel, collaborating with an ex-Renault mechanical engineer to design a new aluminum fork to fit the 48mm WP fork and custom lift bar. .

The tree has two sets of holes: one for attaching HPN leads and another for mounting the antique G/S headlight box that Matias uses on his enduro builds. The plan is to recreate the trees and treetops for a series of exclusive Mythology parts that will be sold in the future.

Myth risers lift the bar’s center of gravity 1.7 inches (45 mm) above the stock. They clamp to aluminum-alloy Magura bars, which have a higher flex than usual – to move the rider’s hand position significantly higher.

Lowering the footrest by 1.5 inches also allows for a more comfortable and comfortable posture during long days in the saddle. Matias notes: “The combination of the higher bars and lower pegs makes the off-road standing stance much more comfortable than the stock G/S.

The taller forks are combined with a 15.7-inch long swingarm that extends the wheelbase by 4 inches – increasing stability and reducing the ‘kick’ effect of the BMW Monolever. It also makes the bike significantly taller, improving Eric’s riding comfort even further.

To give Eric the extra power he was looking for, Matias rebuilt the engine from the ground up, using a 1070cc Siebenrock kit that’s slightly shorter than conventional ‘touring’ clutches, to more torque at lower revs. The pistons are 98mm miniskirt items; like other key components, they have been balanced and all seals, clamps and bearings are new.

To get more power from that configuration, Matias also plugged in the ends and increased the intake valve size. With a rally air filter and a rather ‘open’ Siebenrock exhaust, the R80 also needs an upgrade from 32mm to 40mm Bing carbs.

Temperature is controlled by a new seven-row cooler, with high-flow stainless steel lines and a mechanical thermostat.

The electric side is powerful instead of revolutionary, with a little help from Moto Borgotaro. Matias says: “Eric loves autonomy and wants to maintain his bike. “So I used the EME electronic ignition and charging systems — they were reliable and plugged into the main harness.”

To increase frame stiffness and improve handling, the frame has been reinforced with 12 panels, and the subframe is modified and rotated upwards to increase swingarm mobility. Matias then added an integrated luggage rack and new cross struts for added life and rigidity, along with brackets for the exhaust pipes and locking mechanisms for the seats.

“The seat needs to be a bit higher to make the position more comfortable,” he said. “I turn to my dear friend Sebas Acahaval from One-eyed deer and we built it on a new G/S solo chair pan.”

It’s sculpted with memory foam and has been wrapped with vinyl side panels and an Alcantara top (for a non-slip effect) from Ginger McCabe. New Church Motorcycle.

The portable tank is from R100GS and holds 6.4 gallons: “Large enough for a long day – but much smaller than the 11.4-gallon HPN tank I use on our Adventure model.”

Wheels are definitely built for adventure: they are 21- and 18-inch Takasago Excel rims with bearing spokes. And if things get out of hand, Eric can use the front 320mm rotor with state-of-the-art Brembo brake calipers.

Matias has finished the BMW with a subtle monochrome paint job, plus a splash of warm red on the cranks and swingarms. Like everything else on this bike, it’s beautifully rated – and will stand the test of time. Eric now has the perfect companion for his adventures, wherever they can take him.
