The Kentucky Update Guide for Gulfstream Shippers


Kentucky has issued updated guidance for horses moving between Gulfstream Park and tracks and facilities in the Bluegrass State following recent Herpes Virus positive in Gulfstream.

In guidance published on January 26, the Equestrian Disease Media Center stated that horses must meet a number of requirements.

According to the EDCC website, a horse trainer or veterinarian must contact the equine medical director or his designee and “provide the necessary information on each horse seeking approval. to move to the track.”

For a horse to be approved, its temperature must be monitored and recorded twice daily for seven days after arrival at the training facility/race, with the temperature log posted on the barn. In addition, any “high fever or other sign or suspicion of illness should be reported immediately to the equine medical director.”

Horses must “walk on a Health Certificate showing that the examination and certification was carried out on the day of departure or in the 12 hours immediately prior to departure.” This certificate will include EHV vaccinations, the date the equine health officer signed the move, as well as the expected time of departure and arrival in Kentucky.

An EHV-positive case was found at Barn 21 in Gulfstream on January 21.
