Throw in a host of unforgiving classics from third parties and indies, and the Switch boasts some of the toughest challenges in the game, which you can conquer on a bus or a bog ( or, you know, on the phone).
In the list below, we’ve rounded up just some of the biggest console challenges – the hardest Switch games out there. Our only criterion other than requiring multiplayer is that the game must be good, now, Great. Anyone can make something difficult; it makes you go back and try-try-retry, which differentiates genius game design from trolling. All the games below are super challenging, but also fair. While it’s equally forgiving and its menus a bit unwieldy, this slick Nintendo Switch version offers a great way to experience Lordran’s extremely challenging adventures in true handheld form.
There can be challenges, but Dark Souls is a very fair game. Learn its systems, scan its areas and approach cautiously, and in the end you will win. However, make a mistake when encountering enemies on the wing and pray – even against low-level enemies you’ve defeated dozens of times before – and your first mistake will be punished mercilessly .

A running and gun-fighting boss dressed as a 1930s Fleischer or Disney cartoon short, Cuphead is a visually difficult, mentally enjoyable game that whitens the knuckles. Its focus on intense boss battles won’t be to everyone’s taste, especially if you come to the game somehow expecting a fun animated background, but as long as you know yourself We can’t recommend it enough.

Years after its debut, Spelunky still has all the fundamentals and is still a great entry in the roguelike genre. Solid gameplay, plenty of secrets, and addictive gameplay make for an easy game to recommend, though be prepared to die much before you really ‘get it’. Whatever your tolerance for difficulty may be, this indie classic has proven to be a great fit for Switch and its sequel equally good – if not a little better. Original La-Mulana is a masterpiece in its own right, but we think it has been dwarfed by the sequel, a professionally paced, extremely difficult, and utterly mystical adventure that constantly invites you to explore. Dig deeper and get acquainted with its unique appeal. La-Mulana 2 sure it’s not for everyone – if you consider yourself an impatient or clumsy player, be clear on direction – but those who put in the time and effort to crack this will be extremely pleased because they did so.
And if this isn’t enough for you, you can always go back and polish the original. Same for Spelunky.

Okay, okay, what is this doing here? Well, as an example of a Nintendo game that starts simple and sums up everything in its ending, look no further. Super Mario World 3D.
In particular, we spent so many nights trying to get the last level back on the Wii U, that it got burned into our memory as one of the biggest video game challenges we’ve overcome. In the century. One of the most unique puzzles you can find on the Switch, you are encouraged to break its rules and create your own, making it a whole new and exciting experience. unique, albeit a difficult experience if your brain isn’t weird that way. Its sudden spike in difficulty and lack of a hint system can easily frustrate you, but if you’re into a good brain, Baba’s puzzles are a joy to partake in.
