The dog survived being thrown off the New York bridge thanks to many heroes
A dog nicknamed “Aquaman” has survived a tragedy that no other dog has ever faced. Someone reportedly abandoned him by throwing him off a bridge and into the Harlem River in New York City. When someone saw him, he was rowing in the river, barely floating.
But fortunately, a lot of kind people were on his side, including a good Samaritan and some firefighters. Without the help of fellow dog lovers, the struggling pup could have drowned. Instead, he is preparing to find a permanent home because so many people refuse to give him up.
Good Samaritan Dalmatian
A good Samaritan found the dog in the Harlem River and documented the rescue on his Instagram story. While working, he spotted the 2-year-old Pit Bull mix and stepped forward to help.
The man held the 62-pound dog from the shore to keep it afloat, but he was unable to pull the dog out of the water. When someone saw the man and the dog, they contacted the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) for assistance.
Firefighters jumped on board the Marine 4 lifeboat and headed to where the dog was. They worked with the man to pull the Pit Bull onto the boat, so he could relax and dry off. The FDNY posted about the rescue on Instagram, including photos from it.
“On arrival, 4th Marines, commanded by Lieutenant Sodano, saw a civilian clinging to the dog on the shore and trying to keep [him] rise. Members from Marine 4 were able to get the dog on board and bring it to shore, where it could receive the care it needed,” the FDNY wrote. “Without a swift response from both civilians and FDNY members, this animal’s outcome could have been very different.”
Team effort
Good Samaritan does not share his real name publicly, but on Instagram he has the username “slimshady0321”. He shared several photos and videos from the rescue on his Instagram account. He said he wanted anyone who did this to the dog to pay for their actions.
“Today, FDNY and I rescued a dog that was thrown into the Harlem River. I hope the individual or those responsible for this heinous crime get what’s coming their way,” the man wrote.
