The Best Essential Oils for Concentration, According to an Herbalist

I like the look of a classy diffuser, but my knowledge of oil is shamefully lacking. What aroma ingredient combination is most effective for creating a soothing atmosphere? What about essential oils for focus? What is the best way to reap their sensory benefits? And how exactly are they affected? our mood anyway?

Given the frenzied questioning nature of that first paragraph, focus seemed like the perfect place for me to begin my journey to learn more about the world of essential oils. For guidance, I reached out to Rachelle Robinett, a clinical herbalist and founder of the brand of plant-based remedies. Pharmakon Supernatural.

Going forward, Robinett will guide us through all of our essential oils to core questions, from how they work to mind-boosting magic to the best way to breathe them.

What is essential oil?

Before we get into how they impact our minds, let’s break down what exactly essential oils are. to be.

“Very, very concentrated plant extract,” explains Robinett. “So just as tea or tincture is an extract, so are essential oils. The difference is that we usually inhale or apply them topically instead of taking them internally. ”

How do essential oils work?

When essential oils are inhaled, those extracts can enter our bloodstream very quickly and exert their powerful effects. Robinett adds: “The fact that scents are so closely associated with memories and emotions in our brains also adds to the effect.

Like we stock certain teas to fit our mood or time of day, we can mix and match our essential oils to meet our needs — it all depends on the ingredients. The right combination can lift your mood, increase circulation, reduce inflammation, improve clarity, help you relax, and more.

It’s also important to note that not all essential oils are created equal and unfortunately there are very few regulations. To avoid diluting essential oils with cheap additives, look for labels that say “non-GMO” or “therapeutic grade.” If you see a bottle labeled “fragrance oil” or “perfume oil,” it’s probably not very pure — and almost certainly not non-toxic.

What is the best way to breathe in essential oils?

We know that essential oils work best when inhaled, but because they are so concentrated, you should have an inhalation strategy. “Sometimes just opening the bottle is enough!” says Robinett, who has used this method with Rosemary and Hinoki — two oils that are always on her desk.

In general, however, Robinett recommends diffusing essential oils or mix them with carrier oil (like jojoba, coconut, or avocado) before applying them to your body.

What are the best essential oils for concentration?

When searching for mind-training oils, Robinett recommends the underlying ingredients: nootropics Category.

“Nootropics are herbs and ingredients that improve memory, concentration, and focus,” explains Robinett. “They are best for clearing brain fog and accessing the flow. Nootropics work to reduce inflammation, especially in the brain, and improve circulation.”
