Holidays like the President’ Dates are always a reliable time to find a cheaper mattress. In the Gear team at WIRED, We have tested dozens of mattresses and there are a few good options for all sleeping positions and preferences. Here are the deals we’ve found on mattresses we like.

Mattresses are one of those products that appear to be on sale regardless of when you visit their website, but deals events like these actually cost a little less. All prices apply to queen size mattress.

What Kind of Mattress Do You Need?

Before you browse the deals, decide if you want a composite mattress or an all-foam mattress. We prefer hybrids. They incorporate hundreds of individually wound springs and multiple layers of active foam. Hybrid mattresses generally offer better support and stay cooler throughout the night.

All foam is what you would expect from the name. They are made up of multiple layers of thick memory foam. If you’ve tried a bed in a box, especially the inexpensive one, you’ve certainly slept on one of these.

The Helix Midnight Luxe is expensive, no matter how many hundreds are removed from its price, but it continues to hold the top of our table. In all the tests WIRED Gear editor Jeffrey Van Camp did, he fell asleep just lying on it despite the bright and noisy room. It has a plush padded upper but is just right for most sleeping positions. If you need a new mattress but don’t want to spend a lot of money, this is a good choice. It’s nothing special but would make a great living room mattress, or one for kids. Allswell proves that you don’t have to spend a fortune to sleep well on a hybrid mattress. It’s moderately durable, and has better edge lifting and support than a lot of styrofoam models, thanks to the piping around its perimeter.

The Luxe version of this mattress has three more layers of foam over the standard hybrid mattress, making it a little more cushy. The Luxe is discounted to $540 ($135 off)).

The Allswell Supreme is more expensive than its other offerings, but it competes with $2,000 mattresses at half the price. It’s also a hybrid, with a sturdy foam layer, copper and graphite mixed gel foam for heat dissipation, and a luxurious top layer. We find this great for pregnant women who find it difficult to feel comfortable during the third trimester.

Sustainable mattress deals

This mattress is made of organic latex, wool and cotton, with no polyurethane, flame retardants, active foam or chemical binders. Avocado is also B Corporation certified, so they buy enough offsets to operate as a carbon negative business. Economic abundance aside, comfortable mattress. This is the only mattress that he and his wife agree on, despite their different preferences, says WIRED senior reviewer Scott Gilbertson. It is neither too soft nor too firm.

Avocado Green mattresses are expensive, so if you need a double mattress for kids, we recommend choosing the more affordable Kiwi Mattress. It’s a blend of certified organic cotton, wool and rubber. Casper is a popular brand for a reason. This combination is a good balance between softness and firmness, it’s breathable with just the right amount of bounce. If you’re not sure which mattress to go with, this is a good default choice. This is a good price, although the cheapest we’ve seen recently was $1,116 during Black Friday.

Leesa is another expensive option, but it’s also one of Van Camp’s favorite targets. It wasn’t as pretty as the Helix, but it still hugged his sleeping body. It has a depressurizing effect but is soft, with air bubbles to keep you cool.

If you need a super firm mattress, buy Brooklyn Bedding’s Signature Hybrid mattress. It is so solid, that we will probably use this vehicle next time.

Not sure if you need a soft or hard mattress? Feel like it changes throughout the month? This one has a moderately hard side and a moderately soft side, so you can try both to figure it out or flip it whenever you feel the need. While we’d prefer a hybrid, this one is perfectly comfortable to sleep in.

You’ll sink right into this mattress thanks to the 3-inch-high super soft foam. Even so, it still eases the pressure and provides support. The green ceramic foam layer helps to support but also keeps the skin smelling fresh.

If you sleep on your side, you might love this mattress. Its four layers of dense foam hug your body, gently hugging you as you sleep. The company offers a “Lifetime warranty. ”

Other offers

It’s hard to imagine spending so much for a cover for your mattress, but if you always feel too hot or too cold but otherwise love your mattress, it might be worth it. It can heat or cool your bed to exactly what you want, and you can track your sleep. There’s a backpack-sized device next to your bed, so you’ll need to take that into account.
