Texans sign WR Robert Woods to two-year contract, sources say

HOUSTON — The Houston Texas have agreed to contract with the wide receiver Robert Woodssources confirmed to ESPN on Friday.

Sources say the Texans signed Woods to a two-year, $15.25 million contract with $10 million fully guaranteed. The maximum contract potential is $17 million.

Last season, Woods caught 53 passes for 527 yards with two touchdowns. Tennessee Giants. Titans got him in March 2022 by options trading in the sixth round of 2023 for The Los Angeles Rams.

Woods, 30, was launched on February 22 to help the Titans hit their maximum salary, making him eligible to be signed by any team before free agency next week.

Before playing for the Titans, Woods tore his ACL in November 2021 and struggled to return from injury to play all 17 games last season.

Woods is a 10-year veteran and has played for buffalo bill, Rams and Giants. He has 623 catches from 7,604 yards and 37 touches in his career. He had two seasons receiving more than 1,000 yards, both coming with the Rams (2018 and ’19).

The signing gives the Texans a potential alternative should they decide to move the receiver wide Chef Brandin, who requested the trade last season’s end-of-season deadline. Cooks, who ended the season as the Texan’s top scorer (669 yards), still prefers to be traded, league sources told ESPN.

Texas coach DeMeco Ryans and general manager Nick Caserio discussed the Cooks’ future at the NFL scouting complex last week.

“I’d say we’re in the process of building a team here,” Caserio said. “We will look at every player, every situation individually. Then in the end we will do what feels best for the team and the organization going forward.”

The problem with a potential deal involving Cooks is that his $18 million salary is fully guaranteed. But Ryans joined the discussion with Cooks and “has enjoyed working with him.”

“I’ve talked to Brandin and that process will have to happen on its own,” Ryans said. “We will do what’s best for our team.”

The NFL Network first reported the signing of Woods.
