Tesla’s mobile app shutdown leaves some owners locked out of their cars
ONE Tesla’s mobile app is down worldwide leaving some owners inaccessible to their vehicles. According to Downdetector, a website that tracks and reports multiple outages, about 500 users reported bugs at around 4:40 p.m. ET on Nov. 19. By 9:20 p.m. ET, the number had dropped to about 60 users.
Some owners use Tesla mobile application to gain access to their vehicle in the form of an electronic key. The app also allows users to control various vehicle functions, including location services.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk replied to a tweet from a user in South Korea who said he was getting a “500 server error” when trying to use the app. “Should be back online now. It looks like we may have inadvertently increased network traffic,” Musk said the next day.
Will be back online now. It looks like we may have inadvertently increased the granularity of network traffic.
Sorry, we’ll take steps to make sure this doesn’t happen again.
