Last year, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration require automakers to provide their driver-assistance crash data for analysis. When the information is entered, it shows a The only car manufacturer is a surprising exception, with more crashes than the others: Tesla. Recently, the automaker’s high score didn’t get any lowerand it looks like that trend continues through last month.

For the month ending October 15th (due to the government’s inability to facilitate us using calendar month) Tesla has added two more fatal crashes to its driver assistance list. Oddly, however, only one accident actually happened during that time period – the other happened almost a year ago.

The Administration does not distinguish between Tesla’s Autopilot and FSD Beta driver-assistance products, because both functions at SAE Level 2, so it’s not clear what software each vehicle was running at the time of the collision. What? To be It is known that both crashes involved a Tesla Model 3, both occurred in California, and both were fatal.

Frustratingly, there’s very little information to work with beyond that. Previous incidents state whether they involved pedestrians or other motorists, but these two seem to be extenuating circumstances. The previous incident, from December 2021, referred to a “narrative” for details — only for that school fully redacted by NHTSA.

The other incident, which dates back to September 2022, appears to be too new for much data. Much of the relevant information, from telemetry data to whether occupants are wearing seat belts, is simply left blank in NHTSA’s database. However, since this is only a preliminary report, it is likely that more data will be included over time.

While we may not have all the final details, we do know that this adds at least two more deaths to the Tesla number. Each warning serves as a reminder to drivers to be clear about what their driver assistance systems are doing — and always be ready to intervene should something go wrong.
