Tesla opens V4 Supercharger station at Gurney Plaza, George Town; mainland Penang service center in Perai
Tesla has announced the official opening of its first Supercharger station in George Town, Penang, marking the first time the company’s DC fast charging stations have appeared on the island itself. The station is located at the B1 car park at Gurney Plaza, and uses the same V4 hardware as IOI City Mall and IOI Puchong Mall.
Like other V4 locations, each charger has an output of 250kW, making them some of the fastest – if not the fastest – chargers on the island. As usual, these superchargers are exclusive to Tesla owners, who can simply plug in their cars and charge automatically without opening an app. Charging costs at the standard supercharger rate of RM1.25 per kWh.
The latest location brings the number of Supercharger locations to 12, with a total of 56 chargers; there are also 13 destination charging stations with 69 chargers. Including one Second Supercharger Station in Penang On land at Sunway Carnival, Seberang Perai, there are four V3 chargers.
Also opening today is Tesla’s first service centre in the state, also located on the mainland in Seberang Jaya. The new facility, which also houses a body and paint centre, serves customers in both Penang and the entire northern region.
Additionally, Tesla is currently hosting a showcase at the main entrance of Gurney Plaza through September 15, where visitors can view and test drive the company’s vehicles as well as see Optimus humanoid robotThe company will also deliver the first cars to buyers in the northern region at its new service center on September 12 and 13; it is currently unclear whether the company will continue to deliver to buyers in that region or will return.
