Teenage boy dies after ‘medical emergency’ during kids football match in Nottingham | UK News

A teenage boy has died after suffering a sudden “medical emergency” during an under-13 football match.

Samuel Akwasi, who was described by his teammates as “well respected”, suffered a cardiac arrest after collapsing on the pitch, the Young Elizabethan Football League (YEL) said.

The incident happened during a children’s soccer match when the 13-year-old playing for FC Cavaliers Green met West Bridgford Rossoneri on Saturday.

Nottinghamshire FA said on Twitter: “Samuel has played for the FC Cavaliers since the age of 9 until now. Highly respected by all members of his tea team.

“We send our condolences to Samuel’s friends, family and teammates at this extremely difficult time.”

YEL confirmed Samuel’s death on its Facebook page. It read: “We are devastated to report the tragic events that occurred yesterday morning.

“Despite the best efforts of those present and the rapid application of a defibrillator and the rapid response of emergency services, Samuel passed away unfortunately at QMC.

“On behalf of YEL and our football community, our hearts and prayers go out to his family and friends as well as the FC Cavaliers at this terrible time.”
