TANK-GARCIA DREAM AND TRUTH || FIGHTHYPE.COM

TANK-GARCIA'S DREAM AND REALITY

If you got a little adrenaline dripping when you heard that Gervonta “Tank” Davis vs Ryan Garcia was actually going to take place in 2023, you’re not alone. Even I, as tired and skeptical as they came, felt that little great war run down my spine when I heard the news. I mean, damn, this is a damn good fight between talented, undefeated, 20-year-old stars against each other. It’s rare to find a relevant, insightful article these days in Ring Magazine.

The news inspired me to jump on social media with my views on how things should go:

“I take on Tank-Garcia? Garcia is a very, very talented kid with a one-punch weapon that ranks among the best in the sport… but there’s a long list of talented kids with a unique weapon. fell before more skilled, seasoned fighters, especially a skilled, seasoned boxer who can take the blows seriously…Garcia has a chance, but I see many Davis probably killed him… He’s just an all-around boxer with a subtle nuance and use of angles. ..and Ryan is full of defensive responsibilities and he is incapable of coordinating any single tactical approach in the ring… Other than a surprise shot– it can happen. — I don’t understand you won…”

Then I realized I was talking about boxing, a sport that has become the undisputed king of the business of blows, self-destruction, and decoys.

Davis-Garcia, even if both fighters wanted it and both broadcast entities respectively agreed on logistics, it was fragile. There are countless possible ways it could collapse in the next few months.

Given that no date or place has been set and no contracts have actually been signed, it’s hard to get too giddy about the fact that this fight is real– especially in boxing where the news spread faster than the truth.

If the ego flares up or some petty dispute turns into an unpredictable stalemate, it can all fall apart. If some fresh money enters the picture and dumps a ridiculous amount of loot on either boxer (or his team), we could see another Terence Crawford situation and a fight without Who wants to see for both guys.

This doesn’t even take into account that either guy could get injured along the way or upset in a fight that opens up to a big match. Davis’s opponent on January 7th, Hector Luis Garcia, is an underrepresented figure and certainly not one to be taken lightly. Whoever Garcia fights on his way to Davis (hopefully he’s actually planning a makeshift hit) also has an outside chance to ruin things.

Oh yeah, and there’s a big problem in Davis’ criminal trial in February, where he faces crash charges that could carry a substantial prison sentence. Garcia’s mental health issues are also a possible setback, especially given that over the past few years the child has repeatedly withdrawn from fights.

Even with the contract signed and the venue booked, there’s still plenty of time for things to go awry before we head into the fray. For the sake of sanity, I’ll just assume it’s NOT happening until I see the ring go again.

Now that I’ve peeed enough into the sun and your happy thoughts, let me go back and put some rose petals on that pungent urine.

Davis-Garcia was a great fight, a big one, and an important one for a straight boxing match. It could also serve as a template for doing these kinds of risky cross-platform, cross-company competitions in the future.

It would be difficult to create wars like these that yield large enough returns to make them workable, but more and more big, compelling wars will energize the market and create a better atmosphere to generate revenue. As the old saying goes– the rising tide lifts all the boats. A vibrant, exciting boxing market can only bring good to the sport and everyone’s profits.

If 2023 turns out to be as good as I mentioned in a recent article, with Davis-Garcia, Fury-Usyk, Plant-Benavidez, Haney-Lomachenko, Wilder-Ruiz, Bivol-Beterbiev and Spence-Crawford (crossover). finger) is likely on a schedule, we could be in for a serious rebuilding year. After a seriously bad 2022, next year sounds like a lucky one. Of course, if…if…if…if.

Now watch boxing fans mess things up by stealing things and/or refusing to support promotions, proving that risky fights like Davis-Garcia are simple is not profitable enough to make.
