According to TMZ, Swizz Beatz and Timbaland are suing Triller after allegedly failing to pay music moguls for their Verzuz show. The lawsuit claims the major manufacturers sold Verzuz to Triller in January 2021 with the provision that Triller must pay them $9 million each no later than March 17 (and sooner if the company reaches minimum funding threshold). Then Triller will pay them $500,000 each for ten months on the first of the month.
Timbaland and Swiss settled with the company after the initial default payment, but assume Triller didn’t learn their lesson and keep playing the same game, so the duo are suing the social networking service video sharing association for $28 million plus interest.
“To date, Defendants have failed and refused to make any payments to [Swizz Beatz and Timbaland] in the past amounts due and owed,” the lawsuit states.
Triller seems to be catching frustration from the duo and Black’s ads on their platforms. Complicated reports the platform was hit with serious allegations just weeks ago for allegedly failing to make timely payments as publicly promised. It was revealed in 2021 that the app was offering one-year contracts to 300 prominent Black creators on social media for a total of $14 million, which it boasts. is “the largest-ever one-time investment commitment for Black creators.”
The Washington Post details the alleged omission of these payments to creators — and their ensuing financial struggles after being told they would receive $4,000 a month less than half form of equity. David Warren, 22, told WP,
“This program is about helping us financially free and empowering Blacks. They told us that a lot of things were going to happen to us. We were made to look like idiots. “
He added, “All of these platforms preach diversity, but just like old Hollywood, there are a lot of people being used as token characters while the owners of the platforms earn money. profit”.
