Flying first class on Swiss usually requires paying cash or holding elite status with Miles & More from the Lufthansa Group (which owns Swiss) for the privilege of booking first class using miles.

But now, United MileagePlus members can book Swiss first class award tickets. That said, there are some major caveats that you should be aware of. This news was first reported by Live and fly.

How to book a Swiss first class room with United miles

The most important thing to know about booking Swiss first class award tickets with United mile is that they can only be booked within three days of departure. In return, you can only use this for last minute award tickets.

Additionally, only connecting cruises show first-class awards on the United website. You cannot book a direct flight from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Geneva Airport (GVA) as a Swiss first class award. However, you can book JFK to Munich International Airport (MUC) via GVA. The JFK-GVA flight will be in Swiss first class, with the second flight in business class as there is no first class on that flight.

This example prize costs 121,000 miles, plus $32.60 in taxes and fees.

Right now, the Swiss first class award is Not displayed on other Star Alliance partner sites, such as Air Canada Aeroplan or Avianca LifeMiles.

Caution: We’ve seen this before with sad news in the end

It should also be pointed out that over the last 5 years we have seen Swiss first class offered on short notice using partner miles. In some cases, Swiss canceled previous bookings, claiming it was a mistake.

Until now, the only guaranteed way to book a Swiss first class ticket with partner miles was an airline’s three-hour flight between Sao Paulo-Guarulhos International Airport (GRU) and the International Airport Economic Ezeiza (EZE) of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

This route is a continuation of the route between Sao Paulo and Zurich and is regularly open to award booking partners. It does not require a reservation just a few days in advance.

Ultimately, there is no guarantee that this is not a glitch on the United website. These prizes can disappear at any time, so make a reservation quickly if you see something that you want to fly.

bottom line

If you’re flexible and hungry to try Swiss first class, you can reserve using the United mile — at least for now. Just remember that you can only book connecting tickets and you must book within three days of departure. But even then, the prize space can be hard to come by.
