Suzuki will not bring the renamed Toyota RAV4 Prime PHEV to Australia

Despite pressure from Australia’s upcoming emissions laws, Suzuki Australia said it will not bring rebadged Toyota models it supplies in Europe to Australia.

Talk to Car expertSuzuki Automobiles Australia managing director Michael Pachota said there were no plans to bring either model to market. Toyota RAV4 Prime-based on or Corolla Touring SportsSwace is based in local galleries.

“We don’t need to go too far down that path for Suzuki Across and Swace,” Mr. Pachota said.

“Our plan before NVES was announced was to electrify the majority of our vehicle lineup by 2025, and by 2025, the majority of our vehicle lineup will be hybrid.

“That being said, as we move forward with new product introductions, as we have planned, we will go straight into NVES.

“The only car that doesn’t fit the mold 100% is the Jimny, as there are currently no plans for a hybrid version,” Mr. Pachota added.

Sold in emissions-conscious markets like Europe and the UK, the Suzuki Across is a badge-engineered version of the Toyota RAV4 Prime Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV).

It combines a 136kW/227Nm 2.5-litre petrol engine with a 134kW/270Nm front-mounted electric motor and a 40kW/121Nm rear electric motor.

Suzuki UK claims a ‘weighted combined’ fuel consumption of 1.0L/100km on a fuel charge, taking into account the 75km EV driving range of the hybrid battery.

Meanwhile, the Suzuki Swace is a renamed Corolla Touring Sports Hybrid model, equipped with a 102kW/142Nm 1.8-liter hybrid system combined with a 70kW/185Nm electric motor.

Combined fuel consumption is rated at 4.5L/100km on the WLTP cycle.

Suzuki Australia is preparing for an onslaught of hybrid products over the next 12 months, led by Swift hybrid at the end of this month and next is Vitara Hybrid, S-Cross Hybrid and Fronx Hybrid in the early period of 2025.

It is understood crossover Ignis due for cuts next year, possibly due to new regulations coming into force on March 1, 2025 requiring automatic emergency braking, which means the Ignis in its current form cannot be sold locally. direction.
