Sunrise will merge into Bandai Namco Filmworks

Bandai Namco and Dawn announced an organizational change that will take effect on April 1, 2022. The parent company will merge its film production subsidiaries – including Sunrise – to form a new company called Bandai Namco Filmworks Inc. . While Sunrise will lose its name, Bandai Namco promises it will stay personal as a brand.

This merger will be part of a larger reorganization creating two new companies. Bandai Namco Rights Marketing and the film division of Bandai Namco Arts will also merge to form Bandai Namco Filmworks Inc. At the same time, the parent company will combine Sunrise Music with Bandai Namco Music Creative and the music division of Bandai Namco Arts to form Bandai Namco Music Live Inc.

Sunrise is a Japanese animation studio best known for creating Gundam, Code Geassand Love Live! Franchising. It originally appeared as an independent limited liability company called Sunrise Studio in 1972. It then became a subsidiary of Bandai in April 1994. After the complete acquisition of Sotsu in March In 2020, Bandai Namco now has full ownership Gundam Franchising.

The new one White Base Office, established in October 2021, serves as a precursor to these mergers. Bandai Namco has gradually moved Sunrise and other related studios into the same building. Sunrise Beyond will finalize the office’s listing by June 2022.

Bandai Namco Filmworks Inc. and Bandai Namco Music Live Inc. will officially appear on April 1, 2022. Both subsidiaries will use new logo which Bandai Namco will use starting April 2022.
