Summer Walker Addresses Criticism of Afro and Her Traditional Outfits for “Steping Out of Whiteness”
Summer Walker is once again the talk of the town due to her recent hairstyle. Weeks after putting her hair in place with a shaved head, high ponytail, Summer has harnessed culture and tradition to inspire a hairstyle that matches and ‘matches’.
Summer Responds to Critics
On Friday, the singer released photos of rocking with a large wig and a traditional dress. The wig covered her forehead and eyes. In one of the photos, she’s sitting on a classic cream and gold couch with her legs crossed. Her dress is white with a ruched waist and half-length sleeves. The caption on her post says, “love my house” along with a moon emoji.
But, it seems the reaction to her looks has been less than pleasant as Summer followed up on her Instagram Story.
“Straight wig, flowing skirt = [heart eye emoticon, devil face smiling emoticon, clapping hands emoticon and tongue emoticon],” wrote Summer. “Afro wig, wear for the ceremony = [vomiting emoticon, rolling eyes emoticon, woozy face emoticon and laughing emoticon]”
She included a second post on the topic to her Instagram Story. This time Summer mentions a person named Aisha, but doesn’t give much context about that person.
“In the words of “Aisha,” “step away from whiteness,” Summer writes.
Both photos are posted on a background photo featuring the mirrors seen in Summer’s original post.
Viral hair in the past of summer
As mentioned, this is not the first time Summer has become famous for her hair. After all the chit-chat about her shaved head, Summer deleted the post. However, the artist made it clear that the removal has nothing to do with negative comments.
“You guys are so funny, do you really think hateful comments have an effect on me? I have removed my shaved style pic from IG because my religion doesn’t allow me to show my head,” wrote Summer on her main account story (@summerwalker)
Summer also revealed that she was “having trouble” with the post, though she did not specify what kind of trouble or what religion she practices. She also mentioned wearing a wig while filming the video instead of being unhappy with her chosen hairstyle.
“You all think [too] your appreciation. You all are weak because *opinion matters to NOONE, so many of you mean as much in the world as an ant in the dirt,” wrote Summer. “No one knew you were all alive, because I was EXTREMELY HAPPY.”
