Peter Hickman closed the Isle of Man TT 2022 with an impressive win in the rescheduled Milwaukee Senior TT. It was the fourth win of the week and the ninth of the Lincolnshire driver’s career. He left the island associated with legendary David Jefferies on the list of all-time winners and joined an elite club of just four that have won four times in a single year at the races.

Once again Hickman let his old opponent Dean Harrison hit him in the heel during the six-lapper round. With the exception of a mechanical problem, however, Hicky’s victory was never really in doubt. In the end, the Gas Monkey FHO BMW passed 16.9 seconds ahead of Harrison with Conor Cummins in third place. Cummins had a great long run with his teammate Davey Todd leaving the surrounding racers glued to their radios, desperate for information from each time check during the race. lasts 2 hours. Todd lost chess in just 2.8 seconds, but every one of Milenco by Padgetts Honda was proud on game day.

Senior was nearly 24 hours late when it got underway at 11 a.m. Saturday. A fatal sidecar crash and bad weather caused delays on Friday and meant it could not continue as planned.

There is also uncertainty about whether Senior will be able to operate on Saturday because of the lack of sheriffs on the island. After an appeal where Hickman himself (among other competitors) appealed to those willing and able to get ready for himself, the race finally received the nod to go on Friday night.

It was an unusually nervous John McGuinness who led the field at number one. ‘ My stomach is boiling,” he revealed at the starting line. You can’t help but wonder if this will be his last race on the island.

But there was no room for affection as attention turned to Glen Helen in the opening act. Harrison has a lead on the road and is half a second over Hickman, suggesting a rerun of their 2019 classic might be in the cards. Todd and Cummins were right behind the leaders at 3rd and 4th. But Michael Dunlop was surprisingly slow at 5th.

At Ballaugh, Hickman took the lead for the first time and since then, he’s never been top. On each split in that opening round, Harrison would lose 2.5 seconds and lose to the leader by 8.3 seconds at the Grandstand. It only came to light later that Bradford had suffered a bird strike that punctured a hole in his screen.

The bird caused Harrison all kinds of problems, especially great pain in his neck and shoulders. However, he still came in at 131st in that first round. And the live feed shows the Kawasaki Knife sliding 2 wheels through the Greeba – he’s clearly minimizing the impact of whatever problems he’s having.

Dean Harrison

Our furry friends seem determined to join the proceedings. Yellow flags were reported at the bend of the Quarry when a family of ducks crossed the road. Thankfully, all passed safely.

With Glen Helen in round 2, Hickman caught Todd on the road and Dunlop caught James Hillier. But because Ramsey Hickman was with Dunlop. The sight of TT stars together riding superbikes on Manx roads is truly a sight to behold. The pair are the only solo riders to win this year.

Traffic clearly didn’t hinder Hickman, as at the end of the second half his lead was 14.6s.

By the time the leader dueled, Harrison had refueled and left. Hickman lost a few seconds at the pit stop but nothing to worry about.

However, there is some drama in the gas alley.

McGuinness was penalized for speeding (he received a penalty in the 10th minute) and James Hillier had a disaster when he missed the pit. Davey Todd was inside and OMG Yamaha couldn’t turn around. It’s not Todd’s fault – he has his own breakpoint, it’s simply one of those things.

The conditions for the race were far from perfect. High winds caused all sorts of problems during the race and the likes of Michael Rutter, Mark Parrott and Gary Johnson parked their cars in pits due to the dangers posed by blowing gales. Each said they were simply not having fun and it wasn’t worth the risk. A fair appeal to bring to light the tragic events of the past 7 days.

Round 3 is quite unstable. Hickman’s lead remained around the 10-second mark until Bungalow when it stretched to 15.3. When they checked back at the Grandstand, it was June 18.

In round 4, the gap between first and second is still about 18 seconds but the battle for the final podium position has really heated up. It was the fraction of a second that separated Todd and Cummins. With Todd seemingly gaining the edge as Cummins hit the traffic.

Davey Todd

The 2-meter-tall man was tangled in a pile of rubble with McGuinness and Dunlop, who were racing for a spot on the road. In fact, Manxman pulled Hillier back to Dunlop and this really helped him get to the bottom of round 6.

The 2nd stop was less dramatic, but they did see the departure of the fastest newcomer ever, Glenn Irwin. Frustrated Irwin called it a day because he had a problem with his rear Metzeler – it felt like someone was knocking on his rear wheel with a hammer, he said.

Peter Hickman

His ears fell off when Hickman went to see Glen Helen in round 5, as he had lost some time before Harrison on the run from Douglas. At Ballaugh, he lost another second. Fans are starting to wonder if BMW will start to slow down like it did in 2019. But that’s nothing to worry about; a false dawn for Camp Harrison. The lead was 14.7 seconds at the Bungalow and by the time they started the final round, it had grown to a healthy 16.5 seconds.

A similar pattern emerged on the final lap as Harrison won the opening mile time. However, Hickman waved to the fans at Ramsey and at that stage the Seniors’ outcome was beyond doubt.

Conor Cummins

In that last lap, Cummins kept Todd continuously at a safe distance of just over 3s, which is really nothing to discuss in TT. Todd more or less matched him on every mile but couldn’t eat into the advantage. Locals celebrated in relief when Cummins’ second podium of the week was finally confirmed to the finish line. Todd got home before Michael Dunlop and James Hillier.

It was reported that Dominic Herbertson famously crashed into Glen Helen in the final round and was airlifted from the scene. Thankfully, he was later released from the hospital and photos of him on his feet subsequently surfaced on social media platforms – a very welcome sight.

But today is all about Peter Hickman and his dominance. How long will it last? Given his current form, it’s hard to imagine anyone having an answer for him on super bikes anytime soon. Despite the attention of the likes of Harrison, Hickman seems able to expand his game when necessary. You have to wonder what his tally would have been without Covid. The coming years will be very exciting.

Peter Hickman

Many consider the Senior TT to be one of the best, if not the best, awards in motorcycling. It’s impossible not to get caught up in the excitement and prestige that come with watching the best road racers on the planet compete over six laps for that beautiful, historic trophy. However, there’s no denying that today’s event is a bit sad – a gloomy backdrop given the events of the past few days. Although the dangers are well documented and no one goes to the island against their will, 5 deaths in a week is a serious number to consider and a difficult one to understand. .

Peter Hickman

This year has it all. Glory, excitement but unfortunately also horror. Today is proof (if it is necessary) that no matter what, on the Isle of Man, the show will continue. We can only hope that for the 2023 release, fate will be a little less grim.
