Stolen dog found 600 miles from home after 5 years is back to good life
Despite their security cameras capturing it all, a family’s German shepherd named Sheba was stolen right in their backyard. At that time, they did everything they could to find her.
Since this happened 5 years ago, they never thought that they would see their sweet girl again. But now, Sheba has been found – a terrifying road 600 miles from home.
Five years ago, Sheba was one of five dogs in a chain that was stolen from the backyard or backseat in Baytown, Texas. Sheba’s parents let her out into their backyard for business and then went to visit a nearby neighbor who lived right behind them.
Her family was there for less than an hour, but long enough for thieves to break in and steal her from their backyard.
“You see a truck slowly passing and stopping. She is such a lovely animal. She came right up to him, thinking she was going to hitchhike. She ran from under the awning, they picked her up, went around to the back of the truck, loaded her and took off,” said Stephanie Malmstrom, Sheba’s mother.
Since the incident happened within the field of view of their surveillance cameras, they saw exactly what happened. But witnessing their sweet girl stolen didn’t help in tracking her down. They searched, put up flyers and even offered a $1,000 reward, but she was never found.
It’s been five long years now, and their sweet Sheba has finally been found! It was more than 600 miles away, in the panhandle of Texas, where an animal control officer spotted Sheba walking down the street.
“Animal control officers scanned the animal and determined that it did indeed have a chip. He looked up the owner’s information in the microchip database and contacted the owner. To his surprise, the owner said the animal was stolen from Baytown, TX,” reads a news release.
Luckily, Sheba had a microchip, and when it was scanned, authorities were able to contact her family. Even so, there are still no clues as to who had Sheba and why she was wandering the streets alone.
Sheba’s family was shocked to receive the call, but they feel incredibly lucky that their sweet girl is back in their arms. This lucky girl was flown on a private jet courtesy of Pilot N Paws.
Malmstroms made sure Sheba’s homecoming celebration was extra special with a backyard pool party and her very own homemade steak!
Steak night was a once-a-week tradition before Sheba went missing, and the family is grateful they’ve finally resumed their special routine.
