Stockholm DL 2022, Men’s Javelin Throw: Neeraj Chopra finished second despite setting a better national record with a throw of 89.94m

– Neeraj seems unhappy with the release. 86.84m. That will help him stay strong ahead of the World Championships.
– Peters goes first. Athletes will throw in the order in which they are placed in qualifying. White flag… it was a good throw but it was no better than his 90m effort. It is 87.36m.
– Keep stable! The sixth and final round starts right after the men’s 100m. Peters, Neeraj and Weber to compete.
– Peters skips the fifth throw. Neeraj got 86.67. Silver Medal Tokyo 2020 Jakub fouled again. Helander ignored. 89.08 for Weber as he jumps to third place!
– Peters 4th throw-in: 85.03m. Neeraj throws in 84.77m. The leaderboard remains unchanged.
– Neeraj hit 87.46m on his third attempt. Peters made it in the 90m club again with a freaky 90.31m throw! MR bet set up by Neeraj a few minutes ago. Weber was 84.48m when Helander and Jakub fouled.
– Neeraj’s second throw-in went 84.37m, better than Peters’ 84.49m and Jakub’s 85.60m. Oliver Helander, Julian Weber, Vitezlav Vesely and Amb fouled.
– At the end of the first throw, the top three are 1. Neeraj, 2. Jakub Vadlejch (88.59m) and 3. Anderson Peters (86.39m). Kim Amb’s 82.86m throw was his Best of the Season.
– Neeraj Chopra has set his own national record with a long throw of 89.94m!!! It’s not only his Personal Best but also an Encounter Record. The previous MR was organized by Andreas Thorkildsen of Norway – 89.78m (July 25, 2006).
MATCH PREFERENCE
Elated with a strong start to the season, Olympic champion javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra is poised to claim his first Diamond League title in his first appearance in four years in a prestigious one-day meeting. credit on Thursday.
Chopra, 24, finished second in the Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku with a national record 89.30m throw before winning the Kuortane Games with a reliable 86.60m effort in dangerous conditions.
Both tournaments in Finland have solid pitches, although the Turku squad is more star-studded than Kuortane, where Chopra slipped after an awkward release on the third attempt in slippery rain conditions. Luckily, he got up immediately and won the event without any injuries.
“We started training in December, so it was a bit late. I needed to train again because my weight also increased after the Tokyo Olympics,” Chopra said at a press conference before the event.
“I gained 13kg -14kg, so the plan was to get back to training and so we started the season a bit late.
“Our main targets this year are the World Championships and Commonwealth Games as the Asian Games have been postponed,” he added.
This will be Chopra’s first match in the Diamond League after he finished fourth in Zurich in August 2018 with a 85.73m effort. He’s been to seven Diamond League encounters – three in 2017 and four in 2018 – but has yet to win the title. He has twice finished fourth, the other being in Doha in May 2018 where he threw 87.43m.

The day-long prestigious meet-up in the Swedish capital will be Chopra’s biggest event ahead of the World Championships in Eugene, USA next month. He will also face the toughest pitch of the season so far with all three Tokyo Olympics medalists competing.
Germany’s Johannes Vetter, who has maxed out more than 90 throws among active throw-ins, continues on the sidelines. He is not fully fit and does not participate in training sessions with the German national team.
After winning gold at Kuortane, where he was previously stationed, Chopra has moved to Uppsala, less than 100km from Stockholm, and will not be participating in any events after the Diamond League and before the World Championships on 15-24. July. The Indian superstar has beaten defending world champion Anderson Peters of Grenada twice this month. Peters has fallen into form after winning the Doha Diamond League with a top 93.07m throw of the season.
He then threw 86.60m at Paavo Nurmi Games for third place and 84.75m at Kuortane Games to take another third.
Peters’ fitness could also be a concern as he failed to complete all of his throws during an event at Orimattila in Finland last week, recording a best throw of 71.94m.

Olympic silver medalist Jakub Vadlejch of the Czech Republic and fellow Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Vitezslav Vesely will also participate. This will be the first time that all of the Tokyo Olympics medalists will compete together this season.
Vadlejch, who finished sixth at the Paavo Nurmi Games with a best throw of 83.91m, returns after skipping the Kuortane Games.
Similar is the case for Germany’s Julian Weber, who returned from finishing fifth at the Paavo Nurmi Games with 84.02m.
Finland’s Oliver Helander, who unexpectedly won gold at the Paavo Nurmi Games with a long throw of 89.83m, will also appear after skipping the Kuortane Games.
Another Indian, Murali Sreeshankar competed in the meet in the long jump, an event not included in the Diamond League programme. It is listed as an additional event. But he won’t be able to go to the Swedish capital as his passport is kept at the US Embassy in New Delhi to process visas for next month’s World Championships.
He competed against Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Tentoglou Miltiadis of Greece and World Indoor Championship silver winner Thobias Montler.

POINT SYSTEM To qualify for the Diamond League finals in Zurich from September 7 to 8, 2022, athletes need to earn points at 13 series meetings in their respective disciplines. At each of the 13 series matches, athletes are awarded 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 or 1 point to rank from 1 to 8, respectively. The top 6 in the bronze events , the top 8 in the 100m-800m and the top 10 in the 1500m and long distance will qualify for the Finals.
