State soldier adopts dog after saving her from extreme heat

On June 15, 2022, the Tennessee Highway Patrol found a dog on the side of the road in extreme heat. The little dog was exhausted, malnourished, and looked like he had just collapsed. A state soldier stopped to comfort the dog until it was brought to safety, and in the process of rescuing her the soldier fell in love.

Just over a week after the dog’s rescue, the soldier who saved her pledged to adopt her. She has a long way to go to recover, but at least she will be loved along the way!

Extreme temperature rescue

It was about 96 degrees Fahrenheit when the Tennessee Pumpy Tudors Highway Patrol spotted the scrawny white dog on the side of the road. He didn’t know how she got there or how long she was stuck there, but she was gasping for air, and her ribs were prominent.

Tudors pulled over and put a chair next to the dog. He sat on a chair and held an umbrella to shade her from the sun. He gave her some water and snacks from his car, and quickly, he gained her trust.

Once it was safe, Tudors picked up the dog and took it to safety. Cleveland TN Animal Control adopted the dog, now known as Princess, and treated its medical concerns.

“Today is #Ruff for #MansBestFriend. Thanks to #GoodSamaritan, a Trooper was alerted to a dog in need of assistance on this hot summer day. The dog on the side of the road #Interstate75 is arid and desperately needs water and shelter from the heat. Now, this pet dog is being treated well at TN Cleveland Animal Control,” the Tennessee Highway Patrol shared on Facebook.

Princess gets to live like royalty

After a week of life-saving treatment, Princess is now fine and getting the happy ending she deserves. The Tudors soldier recently adopted the puppy, and the Highway Patrol shared an adorable photo of him holding the dog as a souvenir. She still has some treatment to go through, but she will move into her new home as soon as she can.

“Soldier Tudors adopted the dog he rescued. His family named her #Princess. She is still being treated at the facility until she can get to her #ForeverHome,” wrote the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Now, Princess is safe, but sadly, many dogs fall victim to the extreme heat in the summer. The Highway Patrol reminds pet parents to keep pets safe on hot days and to make sure they always have access to water.
