Spain investigates private carnivore collection with more than 1,000 animals: NPR

Spanish Civil Guard speak The agency is investigating a person who possesses a private subspecies collection of more than 1,000 animal species, including several protected or extinct species.
Cheetahs, leopards, polar bears, rhinos, along with nearly 200 ivory tusks are in the rich collection, worth 29 million euros – more than 31 million USD.
Officials identified 1,090 stuffed animals in two warehouses measuring more than 50,000 square meters in Bétera, a town north of Valencia, Spain. Among animals, 405 are considered protected equal Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora.

Among the collections is at least one Scimitar oryx, which has been declared extinct by International Union for Conservation of Nature in 2000. The nearly extinct Bengal tiger and addax, a species of white antelope, are also in the collection.
Next, the Civil Guard said agents will investigate whether there is any documentation that justifies possession of the animals being taxed.
