Southwest, United and American Airlines have a new enemy – the ugliest site on the internet

Airplane wings are flying

I am constantly told that data is most important. I’m not entirely convinced.

more technically incorrect

Sometimes, proof of my own eyes and life experience — you can call it subjective data — will always prevail over a spreadsheet, a chart, or a bragging startup founder. .

Then I wonder, what can you think of a website for people with sore eyes who are desperate to make your life better.

When I first saw DataScalp — I know, the name doesn’t match the beauty — I wonder if the creators’ own eyes and life experiences aren’t quite what they could be.

That name might inspire some to think, “God, why?” And the site, well, it looks like a forgotten blend from the less creative era of 1997.

However, DataScalp’s mission is to make your flying experience better with data. And not the data provided by DataScalp, but by miserable people like you who have suffered terrible flying experiences.

What the site offers is the airline’s cancellation score, baggage accuracy, on-time operation, and cancellation time to get a refund.

But I ask you, can’t you find all of this on the web? Doesn’t this information already exist? And, perhaps most importantly, given that Americans have so few practical choices when they fly, does this data influence any human behaviour?

I asked the creator of DataScalp, Dwight Harris Jr., about some of my doubts.

He told me, “This content is based on inferential statistics to mimic the information that airlines actually have, but withholding. DataScalp content is based on cargo services. It’s not based on cargo services. on preference, like Yelp, is subjective and doesn’t allow for ratings.”

He also offers an intriguing thought: “Consumers are attracted to people who perform well which makes inventories abundant for airlines, which pushes prices down. Thus, consumers pass through. DataScalp really impacts price like no other platform.”

I wonder if that would be the case.

And what’s name? Isn’t it a bit controversial?

Not with Wright Jr.: “You can book tickets, so DataScalp removes the ambiguity around information. Find out any company names and websites with the word there. data is extremely difficult. DataScalp as a name is a godsend.”

Who am I to argue when God is invoked?

But now the airlines have come together, haven’t they? At least that’s what the airlines say. Why, the Thanksgiving period seems to be relatively peaceful. Uniform transportation Minister Pete Buttigieg thinks so.

Ah, but Harris Jr., insists things will get worse. He told me, “The only reason commuting around Thanksgiving is relatively easy is because of climate change, which brings a relatively warm November. But the airlines didn’t change anything. So when the weather gets colder, it’s going to exacerbate the problems that have always been there.”

Yes, but it’s always been like that, isn’t it? Especially on the east coast. Nothing can change the changing tides of a storm.

Harris Jr. disagree. “Airlines won’t change until we get reliable customer feedback that can’t be intercepted or hidden in one of those customer feedback forms,” he said. DataScalp isn’t pretty, but it’s poised to fix a terrible problem: Air travel.”

I honestly find it hard to fathom how the collected thoughts of angry American flyers could make any difference. It never has. Airlines know that you can claim as much as you like, but when four airlines own more than 80% of the seats, you have to take what you can and be grateful you got to your destination.

Maybe this winter will be the time when DataScalp takes off. Listen to Harris Jr.’s solemn tone: “Winter is coming to the airline industry. I think December travel will be one of the worst.”

I assume you have nothing to lose in making your point for this new Reddit of the Air. And Wright Jr. claims his website will change human behavior. (Yes it is.)

“I worked on Wall Street for a decade,” he told me. “I have successfully changed corporate behavior at the top level. This approach has proven to work.”

But of course it is. Corporations are people too, right?
