Ski resort temperature in Austria increased over the last 50 years “Statistically insignificant” – Raised by that?

From NoTricksZone

Austrian Ski Researcher Günther Aigner look at winter temperatures for the past 50 years at the famous Schmittenhöhe ski resort in the Austrian Alps, about 1,954 meters above sea level.

In the video, Aigner looks at how winter has warmed over the time period in question and whether it has had any significant impact on skiing. Global warming alarmists have warned that skiing will be significantly curtailed as the snowy winter disappears due to warming.

Aigner displays average winter temperature data, which has a linear trend showing a 1.0°C increase in the past 50 years. A trend that Aigner describes as “not statistically significant” and within the range of natural variability:

Mutilation this.

Note that the uptrend is mainly due to very cold periods in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Overall, there has been little linear change over the past 35 years.

Interestingly, the warmest three-year period occurred in the winter of 1988-1990. Four of the six coldest winters have in fact occurred in the last 16 years.

The 1.0°C linear trend warming presented by Aigner means the snowline has moved uphill 150 meters, so it doesn’t affect the ski conditions much.

Aigner says what has made it warmer is summer in the ski resort. Here summer temperatures have increased by 3.2°C. That warming is probably more related to more hours of sunshine and less to man-made CO2. For example, Central England temperatures in hours of sunshine, not CO2.

Chart: Met Office UK

So far there is no solid evidence that CO2 leads to more sun.

In short, skiers need not worry about snow disappearing from the European Alps and can count on excellent conditions to continue for years to come. Skip the climate apocalypse.
