Silent Hill 2 remake revealed, first gameplay details and design changes – PlayStation.

Hi, I’m Konami producer, Motoi Okamoto. When it comes to resurrecting Silent Hill, what we find most important is to do so together with the people who love the series. Silent Hill has been, if you will, “silent” for years. However, even during that quiet time, we received suggestions for new entries and remakes. This is a brand that is loved by many fans.

Bloober Team is one such team with the most enthusiastic proposals. They are a studio that really loves and specializes in horror games. Together with the creators who love Silent Hill, for the fans who have a special place in their hearts for Silent Hill, we’ve decided to remake Silent Hill 2. To explain further, I’ll give you a handover. it’s for Mateusz Lenart, Creative Director & Lead Designer at Team Bloober.

Classic is back again

Silent Hill 2 is a beloved and timeless classic – it’s almost a cliche, frankly, but it holds true for many members of the Bloober Team. This is also why we approach working on the remake with care and respect for the original game.

With that in mind, one of our main goals was to maintain the atmosphere that made Silent Hill 2 so special, while modernizing many aspects of the game’s overall gameplay. We’re working closely with the original creators, including Akira Yamaoka and Masahiro Ito, to make sure we keep that unique Silent Hill feel intact.

One of the new elements that you can spot in the reveal trailer is the use of a shoulder-mounted camera. With that change, we wanted to immerse players more deeply in the game, make them feel like they were part of this unreal world, and give them a more intuitive experience around the world.

One change often brings another change. With a new perspective, we’re rebuilding the combat system and certain settings, among other things. Now that you’ve seen basically what James can see, we can find new ways to keep players active.

21 years have passed since the release of Silent Hill 2 for PlayStation 2, and the huge technological leap allows us to get closer – at least in some respects – to how Team Silent wants their game to be. back in 2001. Thanks to modern motion capture sessions, we were able to deliver some of the best facial expressions in the history of the series and express a wide range of emotions even before the character said a word. are from.

Built with Unreal Engine 5

We’re updating the Silent Hill 2 experience comprehensively. With the capabilities of Unreal Engine 5, we’re bringing the misty, sinister town to life in ways that were impossible until now. The game will please PlayStation 5 players visually, auditory and sensitive.

Some of the features of Unreal Engine 5 that really shine are Lumen and Nanite. With them, we’re taking the graphics to new, highly detailed and realistic levels, and bringing the game’s signature nervous atmosphere to 11.

Lumen is a fully dynamic global lighting solution that reacts instantly to scene and lighting changes. It means that the light interacts with the environment in a realistic way, just like in the real world. The entire game environment is more naturally lit this way. On the other hand, Nanite technology is a great tool for elite designers. With it, they can create extremely detailed worlds and more realistic environments that look like the real thing.

New features of PS5

However, it’s not just the graphics. Much of Silent Hill’s buzzing atmosphere comes from the music and sound design. Thanks to the PS5’s 3D audio capabilities, players will be able to pinpoint the exact direction the sound is coming from. The WWise sound engine creates a realistic and believable audio scene that makes players feel like they’re really in the game.

Of course, we don’t forget about the DualSense controller. We’ve shown with our previous title, Vehicles, that we can get pretty creative when it comes to haptic feedback and adaptive triggering. We’re bringing more new ideas to Silent Hill 2, but let’s keep a surprise for now.

One last great innovation that I want to mention is SSD storage technology. Super-fast data transfer means players won’t see any loading screens as they seamlessly explore the entire town of Silent Hill.

Armed with these technologies, we hope to make Silent Hill 2 a more enjoyable and unforgettable experience for fans old and new. We’re confident we can do justice to this hit classic and breathe new life into its gameplay. The end result will be a Silent Hill game that looks and sounds better than anything that came before it. Although development is not over yet, we can’t wait for fans to experience it.

A new chapter begins

The revival of the Silent Hill series doesn’t end with Silent Hill 2. We’ve announced not only a remake of a past classic, but more titles with completely complete stories. new. The creation of new games is what really brought the franchise back.

We will be creating new games for the series with people who have been part of Silent Hill, but also with creators who love the franchise. We’ll be expanding our partnership and expanding the world of Silent Hill with series-loving groups from around the world.

Above all, together with longtime Silent Hill fans and soon-to-be new fans, we’re taking the Silent Hill series to the next level.
