Sid Meier’s 1980s Command Series Coming to Steam Tonight

Would you love to start your adventure calendar with 80s strategic placement? Atari is releasing Sid Meier’s classic Command series on Steam tonight, so you’ll be able to join Deciding in the Desert, Crusades in Europe, and Conflict in Vietnam. They are a series of classic RTS games that make you the commander in different wars, you know, if the wars are about controlling tiny tanks in a verdant desert.

Decisive in the Desert first appeared in 1985 and puts you in the shoes of a military commander in North Africa during World War 2. The European Crusade was released the same year, but the episode focuses on more famous World War 2 scenarios, like D-Day. Finally, the original Conflict In Vietnam came out in 1986, following the five major battles of the Vietnam War.

Sid Meier designed the Command line with historian Ed Bever and the games were developed by MicroProse. Apparently, they “grew up from observing actual exercises on the table of the US military”.

Find Decisions in the Desert right here On steam. Oddly enough, this game says its scheduled release date is June 1986. I assume this is a mistake and it will arrive tomorrow along with two other games, but uh, prepare DeLorean just in case?

Towards the Crusade in Europe page hereand Conflict in Vietnam page here. Both show a release date of December 1 (in 2021). Each game will cost $6.99 each, or there will be a 25% discount if you get them all in one bundle.
