Erica Lee Carterdaughter of the late Sheila Jackson Leehas revealed that she is running for a congressional seat on her mother’s behalf.

According to Fox News, Carter made the announcement on Monday, August 12, via X, formerly known as Twitter. Carter opened her statement by sharing her gratitude for those who have shown her family “an overwhelming outpouring of love and support” following her mother’s death.
Continuing her statement, Carter revealed that “many community leaders and democracy advocates” had asked her to “consider completing” her mother’s essay. “term this year by participating in the Special Election on November 5.”
“After consideration, the answer is YES,” Carter added.
Carter ended his message with the sentence: “Together, we will complete the mission for my mother, Mrs. Sheila Jackson.”

“Today, with immense sadness for her loss but also immense gratitude for the life she shared with us, we announce the passing of United States Representative Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas’ 18th Congressional District,” her family wrote at the time.
