Shakur Stevenson says he would love to face Joe Cordina in the future.
The American tennis player (18-0.9 KO) is widely regarded as one of the best boxers in the world and proved it when he became the unified featherweight super champion on the 30th. April. His unanimous decision win over Oscar Valdez made him number one with 130lbs giving him the WBC title along with his WBO rope.
Cordina has his own world title showdown coming up June 4 against IBF champion Kenichi Ogawa.
If the Welsh player wins then a fight with Stevenson is possible.
“I would love to do that,” Stevenson told talkSPORT’s Fight Night.
“I know Joe Cordina, I’ve known him since I was an amateur. We didn’t talk or anything like that, but I knew who he was, and I noticed him as a boxer, and I watched him fight.
“I already knew who he was, and I told everyone that Cordina was the best fighter and he would be the best test, so I would be disappointed by that and it was a big fight. to me.”
Stevenson though dismissed the British Archie Sharp. The WBO number one contender has spoken out about going up against the champion but has been described as ‘not a good fighter’ by the 24-year-old.
“I look at skill rather than someone like Archie Sharp, where he’s not a very good fighter for me, he just talks on social media and acts like he’s going to do a lot of things. which he really wouldn’t do.
“While Joe Cordina, when I look at him, I see a real challenge and a real test, because I’m not far from him, he’s got great skill, a shot good.
“I beat him, don’t get me wrong, I know I beat him, but it would be better to just stand in front of another skillful boxer who can hit the box.
“Maybe he needs to build his fan base first because I don’t know how big he is, a lot of people tell me about Archie Sharp than Cordina, even though he’s a better boxer, so I feel he should fight Archie Sharp. just to build a big fight with me. “
