Honestly, I have no interest in Wonder Woman. Warner Bros announcing an open-world Wonder Woman game at The Game Awards tonight doesn’t make any sense to me. My interest was piqued when I saw it being made by Monolith, the studio behind the FEAR and Middle-Earth: Shadow Of Mordor series. Then I see OH WAIT it’s in great use be patented The Nemesis system that breathes life and history into enemies? I fully participate. Let’s go.

As for what it’s for, Warner Bros. said “the single-player open-world action game will introduce an origin story set in the DC Universe and allow players to become Diana of Themyscira in the squad wars.” unites her Amazon family and humanity from the modern world.. Powered by the Nemesis System, gamers will forge deep connections with both enemies and allies as they progress from being a warrior. hero into a proven leader.”
That Nemesis system, makes me excited. In Monolith’s Middle-earth games, Nemesis transformed demigods into dynamic characters that could develop fear and hatred as they battled you for hours. And while you’re busy killing people, they’re also doing their own thing, jostling and climbing the ranks of the Orcs’ leadership.
“It’s a game that really makes me feel like a character in a world that wasn’t built as a set for my performance,” Adam wrote about Shadow Of War in 2017. “The Orcs have enough personality, and the writing is witty enough, to make me believe them as independent entities.”
It really elevates the series with the personality and appeal that it lacks. And that’s why I’m surprised to find myself quite interested in a Wonder Woman game. Curious to see how they will apply it to allies as well.
There’s no word on a release date or platform yet, which could suggest that Wonder Woman is a logical path. It doesn’t even have a website yet.
