By Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3 earbuds have passed Momentum True Wireless 2, which I reviewed two years ago. I really liked the previous model, and two years is a long time in headphone development. At $249.95 or £219.99 in the UK, the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3 is significantly more affordable than its predecessor, which launched at $299.95/ £279.99. Hopefully the price drop doesn’t indicate a loss in build quality or sound in any way.

Regardless of the sound quality, earbuds need to be comfortable to wear. I found the previous model a bit large and uncomfortable in my ears. I can’t be the only one, as this time the buds are a bit smaller and a bit lighter – 5.8g here versus 6g for the previous model. They still feel a bit tight in my ears, but less so, and I didn’t have any trouble with the discomfort I felt after an hour or so wearing it this time. Four pairs of piercings are provided, along with three pairs of rubber rings that help the buds rest comfortably in the ear. That’s a lot of personalization options for adjustment, but the end result, for me, is a comfortable and snug fit. The packaging also contains a short USB-C charging cable.

The bud design has also changed and we now have a squared finish and more subtle branding, which some people may appreciate. Touch controls on the buds are plentiful, with each bud offering single-tap, double-tap, triple-tap, and long-press options. It’s a fair bit to remember, but the full scale offers music playback, call management, volume control, noise cancellation, transparency, and use of a voice assistant. The Sennheiser app allows you to customize these controls.

The app also has a nifty trick for those willing to sign up for a free account: you can create up to 20 “sound zones”, which will automatically switch to your pre-set equalizer settings. specified areas are entered. For example, you might want different equalizer settings for your office, home, or other locations.

Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3: Case

The charging case is smaller than the previous version but offers more battery capacity.

The case retains the fabric-wrapped design of its predecessor. This makes for a nice change from shiny or matte plastic, and my graphite shells and buds look smart. There are also black and white color options. I was concerned when I reviewed the Momentum True Wireless 2 that the fabric might get dirty or stained with use: I’m particularly careful with my kit and two years on unmarked cases. Similarly, careful users can also keep the version 3 shell in pristine condition.

The case is significantly smaller than before. The case of the headphones is IPX4 impact resistant, the case is not. It offers 850-950mAh of charge compared to 600mAh last time. The buds, although smaller, also carry more power at 77mAh compared to 55-60mAh. However, uptime remains the same: 7 hours for the buds and a full 28 hours if the capacity of the case is used up. Charging is fast, with 10 minutes of charging providing 1 hour of music playback, while fully charging the box requires only 1.5 hours. Wireless charging is also supported this time around.

Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3: Apps

There’s plenty of scope for personalization through the companion mobile app.

I found the sound quality to be excellent. There’s a lot of variation across the audio spectrum, and the provided equalizer presets are a useful starting point for deeper personalization. The bass boost pushed the bass away a bit for me, but I enjoyed the podcast preset, which, as the app suggests, improved voice clarity. For those with assistive devices aptX . Adaptive Audio Bluetooth CodecThe sound quality will be further improved.

I also found the adaptive noise cancellation to be very effective in many situations, from walking outside to working with the radio in the background. I can still faintly hear myself typing while working with the buds and playing music, but I want to completely eliminate outside noise. However, if you want granular control over the level of noise cancellation, you won’t find it here.

The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3 earbuds offer great sound quality, plenty of personalization options through a companion app, and ample battery life. They are more comfortable to wear than the previous model, while the carrying case is stylish and charges quickly. The fact that the price is significantly lower than the previous model makes this an even more attractive proposition.
