A new anime series based on Scott Pilgrim The manga is being developed by Netflix in partnership with Universal Studios. The production involved Japanese animation studio Science Saru, as well as series creator Bryan Lee O’Malley. [Thanks, ANN]
O’Malley is writing Scott Pilgrim anime and is considered an executive producer. Also producing is BenDavid Grabinski, who wrote the 2019 reboot of Are you afraid of the Dark?
Science Saru is the Japan-based animation studio behind shows like Take Your Hands Off Eizouken, Heike Story, and exclusive to Netflix Devilman Crybaby. Its CEO, Eunyong Choi, will be participating as a producer on Scott Pilgrim while Abel Gônora directed the anime. Previously directed by Gòngora TO-B1, a short in Star Wars: Visions animation anthology.
For Scott Pilgrim itself, the six-volume manga follows the adventures of a sloth of the same name in Toronto. Scott was the bass player for Sex Bob-omb, his unsuccessful garage band. He meets a woman named Ramona Flowers, an astronaut. To date Ramona, he will have to defeat seven of her evil ex-boyfriends, who all have special powers. The comic was adapted into a live-action 2010 film starring Michael Cera and directed by Edgar Wright, who has executive producer credit on the film. Scott Pilgrim cartoon.
Scott Pilgrim was also adapted into a video game form by Ubisoft. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game takes the form of a side-scrolling beat ’em up reminiscent of classical rhythm’ em up like River City Ransom. It was released in 2010 for the original Xbox 360 and PS3, and re-released on PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, Google Stadia, and Amazon Luna in early 2021.
